john storie 06-24-2004, 12:53 AM i am out of the loop on these cars, kid has been whining for another car, and she got a job, honor roll, yada.....anyways...
prolly gonna go 5~10k, or depending if i find a job, maybe even a new one if the new job has big bank ;)
there's one on the car lot where she works, 01 5speed celica, 40k miles for ~13k.
she works at chebby lot, other daughter at fErD lot, and wife at Dudge lot. :)
what's the deal with them? i think the Celica 6 speed is out of her price range.
MustangEater82 06-24-2004, 01:31 AM Think she will be into modding it and making it "quick"
If so the 6-speed cars have some decent potential can be put into the high 14s with intake and exahaust. Its a toyota so its likely pretty reliable, and decent car if you can live with the "Pissed off bunny rabbit" look.
checking price from the dealer, mildly optioned '01 celica GT 5-speed with 40k goes for about $13,200.
Erik 94TransAm 06-24-2004, 06:22 AM This is a little more then your looking for, but I know the guy selling this car-he would take $13,000 for it (which is a little higher then you wanted to spend)
03 Tiburon w/20k miles (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=162254908&dealer_id=&car_year=2003&make=HYUND&distance=25&max_price=15000&model=TIBURO&advcd_on=n&end_year=2005&min_price=5000&certified=n&address=32708&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=2003&color=&cardist=0)
jy211 06-24-2004, 08:27 AM scion is coming out with a 2 door that's $16K brand new....That way you get factory warranty incase something breaks...
SCIONTC (http://www.scion.com/drive/gallery/drive_tc_gallery.html)
2002Z28SSConv 06-24-2004, 08:23 PM If you're serious about buying one of these Korean cars make sure that it's one she's gonna want to drive for years to come. If she decides she wants something different next year it won't be worth much for trade in. I'm sure you knew that though. But if you buy a used Kia / Daewoo / Hyundai be sure you don't pay too much.
Hondas and Toyotas are excelent cars for teenagers. They are dependable well after they hit 100,000 miles, get good gas mileage and hold their value well.
john storie 06-24-2004, 09:10 PM 2002, you're right, the initial deprecation kills the Hyundai
here's the KBB.com on the car hot-linked above:
Trade-In Value $12,100
Private Party Value $14,375
Retail Value $16,720
and I bet that car went off the lot over $20k. ouch.
what exactly is a SCION? a new brand? their website is so cool, i can't figure it out
i fear the SCION would be worse than the hoonday on resale, if it's new.
the celica looks like a best bet. now to sell my Harley, so the kid can have a decent car
Kwiksilverz28 06-24-2004, 09:20 PM Scion is Toyota. New name and looks aimed towards Gen Y. Kinda cool in my book....
john storie 06-24-2004, 09:25 PM oh yeah. a Toyota by any name will hold it's value.
they do look cool. lemme send her a link.... :D
ZDriver96 06-25-2004, 04:42 PM Grab the celica, nicer build quality, more parts floating around, better gas, proven, look better.
fast_27 06-25-2004, 05:46 PM I have a dealers license and attend the local auctions 3 times per week. I could put you in either of those cars for about 4 grand less than your getting quoted. I can get just about anything. I've been in business for about 7 months. I sell barely over wholesale black book. If interested shoot me an email. fast278@earthlink.net. Ken
SageofKnight 06-27-2004, 11:58 PM That new Scion is the Celica replacement basicly.
john storie 06-28-2004, 08:06 AM FAST-27, tks for the offer. i really want to let her eyeball it before i get it.
since all 3 of them work at car lots, the buyers for them are always calling them with anything cool or sporty. one guy got a MAZDA MP5 for her the other day at auction, she did not want it.
when will the SCION be on the lot? was trapped at a Toyota dealership for 2 hours this weekend, they never mentioned it.
jy211 06-28-2004, 08:50 AM down here in Miami they are already on the lots....
john storie 06-28-2004, 02:18 PM okay, well you remember the episodes of X-Files where they went in them teenyweeny towns?
yeah, that's us. real small town. saw 3 kids all excited on side of road last nite. stopped to help, both thier 4wd's were bogged in the woods, and they waiting on a bigger 4wd to come pull them out.
a big nite in camden county!
tks for the tip, i'll hit some websites & make some calls to big towns.
