good news, and bad news about my LT1
good news, and bad news about my LT1
first the good news. when I popped off the oil pan, I was VERY pleased to see 4 bolt mains staring back at me. Ive heard only very few of the camaros got the 4 bolt mains. I havent checked to see if its a replacement eng. that may have been replaced very early in its life, I'll check the stamp on the block tomorrow. dont really care though. just glad it is a 4 bolt.
good news part II there was NO junk in the oil pan nor in the oil pump screen from the cam/head swap. I was thinking maybe some crap got down there and clogged up the oil pickup. nope. just some fresh metal flakes in the oil
bad news time. the #8 rod bearing was absolutly toast. the crank journal are very scored. no point in getthg this crank fixed when I can get a scat crank for under $200.
but Im gonna try like hell to do the stroker eng. instead. figure it should be able to be done w/all forged internals, SRP pistons, good rings, good timing chain for less then $2K if I get machine work done. if I can get away with no boring the block like I think I can, all I gotta do is clearance the oil pan rails/cyl. walls in the block, and new cam bearings. the battle starts tomorrow when I get home from work.
anyone need some work done to there cars? I could use some car money right about now.
chris

Glad to hear about the good news, thats awesome that you have a 4-bolt main block, I had to pay a crap load for my 4-bolt main setup. Sounds sweet with the stroker idea. If you need work I'll pay you $20 to install the shifter cable whenever you get a chance, you know if I had more money I'd be paying you to help me install a supercharger but that will have to wait until after school.
Your never going to get to the IROC after building up a 383 for the Z28, I'd feel sorry for you if it wasn't for the fact that you have too many awesome toys and your daily driver has room for about 10 dead hookers in the trunk.
