The F-Bodies ARE Coming Back!!!!!!
The F-Bodies ARE Coming Back!!!!!!
Since I am an AC Delco Dealer I just got back from a major AC Delco trip meeting in Philladelphia. One of the guest speakers was in charge of production for the entire GM line. He was giving us inside info about all the new GM Cars coming out. The best part was that they ARE gonna bring back the Camaro and Firebird but only as V8 models. The Camaro will be back as just the SS (maybe Z28) and the Firebird as only the WS-6 Ram-Air and both are gonna have major hp. They don't know exactly what year but they aren't gonna wait long! Some more info is that the new GTO is underrated and really dynoed 350 hp, the new Silverado SS truck coming has over 400hp and he said it would easily beat a Lightning, and the new Cadillac's are underrated and can take on any BMW or Mercedes. All this info had everyone in the room excited. His said GM won't stop until they are #1. All the new cars and trucks are gonna be the best ever made and will perform the best also. I can't wait!!

I can't see the F-body coming back in V8 only form for the multitude of reasons that SS (the man, not the trim level
) has given. We also know that the Silverado SS will make 345 HP, not 400+ unless of course they heard all the criticism and took it to heart (at GM this would be a first!)
Not that I believe the Camaro part (which is an understatement), but if what you say is true, that would mean that Camaro would be back most likely as a Cobra competitor, and I'm guessing with a Cobra price.
Even if it came back in the price range as the current crop of RWD sporty cars, that's still $30 grand, and not only a healthy jump over previous editions, but without the V6s to subsidize them, more expensive than the new Mustangs as well.
I'm by no means saying you are wrong, but if I'm not mistaken, there's still a gag order on Camaro.

Sounds like alot of outdated info.
A year ago the rumor mill was saying that the Siverado SS would have a 400hp s/c 6.0 and the F-body would end up being a more limited production "higher end" model.

When the Maro returns its ganna have to be a lot like the mustang in a sense to work. Its ganna have to sell a ton of V6 models that have daily driver comforts to make bad *** V8 models even a plausible business case. We are ganna need a really good business case if Gm is ever going to produce this car again. Its ganna have to make money. That’s what its all about now. V6 cars will make money so we can have our V8 cars to play with. Ok I think I’m repeating myself but the point is there. Anyone else see what I'm talking about?

Maybe that's all wrong and the BS flag is infact the case, but it would make sense if the Monte Carlo is going rwd--why have two rwd V6 coupes in the same lineup going after the same buyers? At least this way the Camaro isn't being compromised.

The SS and WS6 were nearly $35k anyways, at it seems I was seeing more of those than regulars Zs and TAs last couple years. If the Monte would have a smaller V8 as an option and be the more affordable performance car, that would be the Mustang GT-level competitor. All of this would allow the Corvette to move more upscale and likely closer to Viper pricing.

The Camaro could better fulfill it's "Z/28 roots" if this were the case, and would once again gain exclusitivity, while not having to sell volume to stay alive. This would also give the Monte Carlo a much needed sales boost. While putting the Corvette where it SHOULD be in terms of power, and status.
Add in the fact that the Corvette will automatically have to get better to maintain the rule over the XLR, and I think you have a very POSSIBLE scenario.

The only problem I see here is the fact that the Monte’s new platform is already picked out, isn’t it? Do we know what its going to be on, I know we heard RWD. hmmmmmmmmm......
