Tuning on stock car worth the money?

I have a almost stock 96 Z A4, 2.73 LSD. I opend the air box and by next summer I want a CAI kit and full exhaust.

Coming soon is full synthetics, plugs, wires, 160 t-stat, and a few other small things.

If I got her on the dyno and got a full tune for $250 would it be worth it? I was told I would get a little better MPG since the LT1 runs a little rich from the factory along with harder WOT shifting, and lower the fan temps. Would I get much more out of the car with it being close to stock or should I wait till next summer when I will have, CAI, exhaust, and gears?

Stock programming is actually quite aggressive from a timing standpoint. As far as wot fueling, I'm not exactly sure but I wouldn't think there would be more than 5-10 horse to be gained on a dyno.
I think the only thing you would gain would be what you mentioned (and be careful with someone messing with your line pressure tables) and if you go to the lower temp t-stat you can have your fans kick on earlier.
Might not be worth it until you get the full exhaust (headers included), cai, and gears. Just MHO.

I agree, its really not worth it until you have all of your bolt-ons done.

Otherwise you will just have to come back and tune again.

Plus just save the $250. Because you could make more power buying a set of used Long tube headers for a little more money.

IMO its just not worth it at this time.:p
