I have been looking for a motor for a 3rd gen and ive looked on ebay and see these 383's pushing 470 hp. How is this with a Comp Cams 280H "Magnum" Hydrallic 230/230 Dur. @ .050 w/ Lift at .480" Int. /.480" and 2.02's. For just 3,700$ shipped to your door ??????? I dunno about you but this seems way to good to be true and yes i realize this is to the flywheel.

I HIGHLY recommend you NOT buy one of those motors. I had a bad experience with one I bought off ebay. It was almost identical to the 383 you described. It ran find for about a month, I babied it. After I gave it about 500 break in miles, I started progressively getting on it harder and when i'd hit it the dipstick would pop up from too much crankcase pressure. Soon after I started seeing oil on my spark plugs. I wrote the guy, and told him when I accelerated hard it would perform like crap. He writes me back and says "Thanks for being honest. The warranty clearly states that performance driving is not covered under warranty."
WTF? I never got any warranty papers besides my reciept stating that I had a 1 year warranty on it. The a** hole never did anything about it, the motor drove me nuts and I sold the truck. The seller I bought from was Mark's Performance Engines. You can search him on yahoo and hear his many other horror stories from customers. He's not on there, but strangely enough there is a new seller selling engines from the same place in Arizona, I think it's him under a different name. If you have any questions as to what I had, I can give you a detailed description, it was that same motor with the same cam and all though. If you decide to do it, be REAL careful.....

He emailed me this generic dyno sheet when I asked him and said they all put down the exact same amount. I dyno'd it at thunder racing and it didn't put down anywhere NEAR it should have. I'm working off the op of my head, but I believe the motor was suppoesd to have 470/425 and it put down 269hp or something like that to the wheels.

man thats crazy. that realy sucks. sorry. what a liar. no warranty and lied abou the hp and tq only puot down 269hp what a dissapointment. man i bet ou were pissed. plus how the hell can he claim "they all put down the same amount" thatsa a small chance that that is true because every engine is differnet. they should be off in numbers maybe not by much but still not the same. thanks for letting me know though just incase i ever found a dgood deal on one. how much was it? 3700 also?

There add actually says they use aftermarket heads that are ported. Look on ebay and type in 383. Does any1 think these numbers are realistic ? If i buy it i want him to dyno the engine im purchasing.
