What do you guys think of the STB I made?

Nice work on the TIG :) That looks pretty good, but you should probably powder coat it or at least take it off and spray it so it doesn't rust.

First off, what was your cost on doing this? It doesn't look too bad for a homemade unit, but when you can buy nice finished ones off Ebay for $72 shipped, it makes it hard to compete.

Even if I could build one like you did myself for say $40, I would probably have still bought the one off Ebay as it's finished and looks really good.

Anyway, as to the design, as long as the metal braces on each end are strong enough, I think it should do the job.

Thanks guys. As for price i have about $40 into it, $24 of that is the heim joints. Im getting it powercoated tonight which MAy cost 10 bucks. . The ends are 3/16 inch mild steel. They make 4 link brakets out of the same stuff, so i think it will be ok.

that is the definite advantage of your stb over the solid bar stb.

your ability to preload the brace makes the stb really do the job its supposed to as long as all the pieces hold up to the stress.

if i had an lt1, i'd have to make you make me one. :)

so, if yours doesnt suddenly break in the next couple days, and you happen to decide to make a piece that'll fit an ls1 for 40 bucks or so....we'll definitely have to converse a little.... :)

Id love to, but i made that in class at school, and im not in that class anymore unfortunatly. So I dont really have access to what i need. If you want more info PM or email ill be happy to give you info. thanks!

only problem being that it can pivoit on that bolt at each end... so while the towers wont flex independantly, it can still flex as a parallelogram.

hhhmmm, good point. but thats not really any diffrent then the hotckis in that regard, its got a bolt. but you do bring up a good point.

Nice thing about it [bolts] is that you can actually remove it to access valve covers, intake, etc [I have a 'Jamex' shock tower brace that is almost identical to that].. nice work!

im not knocking his design, just suggestions for improvement... heres what some dudes did in japan to fix that prob:

Dude, he's talking about the 2 bolts that you can remove to get the brace out of there, not the whole bar. Comparing it to a 1 piece bar

is it really that much more work to take out the other two bolts that a 1 piece bar has? ;)

like i said, its not welded on there...... you can unbolt it just as easily.

id MUCH rather make something for my car than buy a piece that may look 10x nicer .. people around here still call my 94 camaro the sewer pipe because of my home made cai .. looked butt ugly and made me 510 rwhp :D
