AutoRoc 09-22-2002, 04:41 PM I think you'll like the girls of Ann Arbor. I do. I visit a few friends up there all year round. The football games are nice too!

Weather - Hot in the summer, Cold in the Winter. This was an espically hot summer compared to the last few, and its predicted that we will have a mild winter this year. Although, that really doesnt mean anything. We didnt get our first snow until the end of December last year, but within a week and a half, we got 50-some inches to come in near the top of the record list for snowiest December ever - in 10 days!
Girls - Well, they are girls. You shouldnt have any problem at UMich.
Metropolis - Ann Arbor is a decent sized town itself. Detroit is about 30-45 minutes away I believe. Lansing is a little further. Grand Rapids is 2½ hours.
Fun - Probably a lot of the same things you do now. Being surronded by lakes gives you lots of opprotunities for outside activities. Boating, jet skiing, water skiing, etc. . . You can hunt and fish. During the winter there is Skiing, snowmobiling and drunken sledding! :D For other ideas, check out the Detroit area car clubs. www.motownmuscle.com is a good one to check out.
Sales tax - 6%
Gas - $1.30 to $1.60 fluctuation for 87 octane on average. Usually around $1.40 or so when I fill up.
gmnumber1 09-22-2002, 05:07 PM thanks for all the info guys...michigan seems badass. how far is the GM BUILDING from umich? i want to see downtown detroit and stuff. the gas prices there are a lot better than california. it's about $1.53 right now and the sales tax is 7.75% here. glad to hear that the sales tax is 6%. thanks again for the info. :)

gmnumber1 09-22-2002, 05:09 PM one more question...HOW ARE THE RESTAURANTS AND FAST FOOD JOINTS AROUND THERE? reason i'm asking is that cali has something called IN-N-OUT. they've got the best burgers in the world. what are some good places to eat and hang out? thanks
Crazyj 09-22-2002, 05:49 PM The fast food in michigan is the same as everywhere else GREASY:D but its good I think you would enjoy mi. As for anything in the ann arbor area I dont know Ive only gone there a couple of times

gmnumber1 09-22-2002, 06:44 PM is there like a particular restaurant or fast food joint that's famous for burgers/food in michigan? how far is canada? thanks
94_formula 09-22-2002, 08:15 PM youll like it..i used to live there.. i grew up 15 minutes from there. lots of good resturants
gmnumber1 09-22-2002, 09:04 PM thanks for all the info guys! i love fishing and hunting. i love nature in general. I BETTER JOIN THE NRA BEFORE I LEAVE CALIFORNIA ;) hahaha my family and I go to alaska every summer to go salmon fishing. how's the catch in michigan? fuddruckers sounds good. are there a lot of camaros/trans ams there? i sure hope there are! all i see around california are pos rice terds. i'm getting sick of the fart sounds they make. i can't wait to go to michigan.
dansam 09-22-2002, 09:09 PM Ok, first off I came I saw I never left. The women are great but they dont like to move very far from home (hence why I live like less than a mile from my inlaws!!). Food is......um.......well there are some exceptions if you look for them.
the good
----fudruckers (like it isnt everywhere anyway) one good pizza place in all of michigan is in caseville (took me over ten years to find this place!) --Lotsa good mexi fair and mongolian babique rocks, you will love steak & shake (kinda will replace your in and out) and rally burger is good good good but ads lotsa poundage.
the bad and the ugly
-----Little cesars is what is considered pizza around here. chinese food pretty much sucks in general, but once in a while you will find something good. someone will talk you into going to white castle, go as everyone should try it once, you will then spend the rest of the night on the pot, but you gotta do it! nothing like buying a bag of 20 burgers (they are really really small).
Dan
AutoRoc 09-22-2002, 09:38 PM White Castle:) I'm not sure if they are out in California but if you see one...Stop there and get a "CASE" of 30 burgers to celebrate you meeting white castle:) Try to eat all of them!! or just split a case with a friend. "What a night" you'll be saying the next morning...
My other favorites are Long John Silver(Seafood fast food), McDonalds for breakfast, and maybe Taco Bell for dinner stuff
don't forget about...HOOTERS
HOOTERS HOOTERS
ROADRAGE 09-22-2002, 09:58 PM HOOTERS ROCKS!!!!:metal:
ROADRAGE 09-22-2002, 10:04 PM AS far as f-bodies go, last I heard we had more of them than any other state. If they sold this many in every state, they would not be out of production.:death:
94_Z28_ragtop 09-22-2002, 10:16 PM Make sure you try Blimpy Burger on Packard St. just down the street from South Quad. You can get a burger made any way you want. I graduated more than a few years ago but I think it's still there. As for pizza, there are probably 30 different pizza joints in Ann Arbor (it's where Domino's was started) so you should have plenty of choices. There are a ton of restaurants in and around Ann Arbor. I have a lot of friends that will drive all the way out there just for dinner and the atmosphere.
As for the women, U Mich has gotten much better over the years. My first year there ('89-90) was pretty lean but by the time I graduated there where a lot of hotties there. The beauty is, Eastern Michigan University is less than 10 miles away and there are always tons of hot women walking around that campus and the city of Ypsilanti. I typically dated women that went to Eastern when I was in school (and almost married one of them).
BTW - there is a large Asian population in Ann Arbor as well. Not sure if that is what you were asking by pointing out you were Asian but I just thought I'd let you know.
gmnumber1 09-23-2002, 01:09 AM damn! michigan sounds badass! you don't know how excited i am guys. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND INPUT! i'm going to a junior college now and had the option to go to umich-ann arbor in the winter, but i just got my car and so i'm entering in the fall of 2003. that's almost a year away, but I CAN'T WAIT. hey scott, thanks for the info on the asian girl population ;) asian girls around here are ok, but kinda stuck up. i like mixed girls, but i guess i'll be "fishing" when i go there ;)..THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE INFO GUYS! that white castle place seems cool...so they got mini burgers?
94_formula 09-23-2002, 01:30 AM uhmm dont get to excited about white castle..but after a night of parting at u of m you'll be finding someone to drive you over to the white castle..theres one right near there over off carpenter road.. you get beat the deal on that amount of food for the price..just hold your breath and choke it down
ChrisFrez 09-23-2002, 11:39 AM Compared to the West coast - your not gonna find as many Burger joints as you guys have. There is no In-N-Out, no Jack in the Box, no Del Taco...but we have Ralley's, White Castle and the usual big Chains. If your love a good cup of coffee, i'll highly recommend Tim Hortons as well :)
Also in Ann Arbor there is a place called Zingermans - best customer service in the World, which is what this place is known for. It's like a sandwich, coffee, deli shop.
And of course I can't forget, the largest Camaro Only show is in Ann Arbor every year called Camaro Superfest - http://www.camarosuperfest.com

gmnumber1 09-23-2002, 02:26 PM i think i'll try that zingermans place....thank God i'll be able to see some real cars--CAMAROS/TRANS AMS! the only car shows we have around here are IMPORT NIGHTS. so many riced out hondas, acuras, toyotas, and VWs. thank God i didn't get a VW. i am DEFINITELY going to go to the Camaro SUPERFEST. i wish we had one of those around here. i sure hope GM realizes what kind of stupid mistake they made when discontinuing the camaros/firebirds. i trust that bob lutz will "revive" the true muscle cars. so many people here have mustangs. i don't know why people buy fords. my dad's first car in america was a ford granada..that piece of **** blew up in the freeway lol and so that was our first and our last ford. thanks again for the info guys.
robvas 09-23-2002, 02:58 PM You'll like the weather here.
This week I sweat my ass off one day, then froze in the rain the next.
ex-rustang 09-23-2002, 04:54 PM The cost of living is alot cheaper than out there i belive.
ChronoGN 09-23-2002, 05:19 PM Michigan is boring.. Expecially in the winter...
Maybe its cuz I live out in the country...
97LT1F-Body 09-23-2002, 07:32 PM Just my .02
Im in the military. Ive been stationed all over the country ID, OK, TX, KY, TN and Korea. Im from up north, Petoskey Mi, and so far no other state can beat Michigan. I mean the fishing is excellent, the hunting is by far the best (deer, small game) weather is awesome, all 4 seasons, you have the beaches, sand dunes (probably not like they are in CA). I love it. The people are friendly and there is plenty of things to do. All depends on if your a couch potato or partier like myself.
And when you get to Ann Arbor, dont miss the UofM vs. MSU football game. Theres nothing like sitting in the largest and loudest stadium. Good Luck to ya!
:metal:
robvas 09-23-2002, 10:52 PM Boring the in country??
Ever heard of:
Bonfires
Quads/Sleds/dirtbikes
camping/hunting/fishing
Guns ;)
