BLACKBIRD8200 06-07-2004, 05:12 PM where are the Trans am and Camaro's in the Lansing and surrounding areas? all i see are mustangs and tuner cars (there is nothing wrong with those cars!) but i'd like to see more f-bodies
there are couple here and there but not many and if you do run into another f-body most of the time it's just a car to them!! they don't know how much fun it is to mod and drive these cars, these cars are ment to be driven not drove, there's a fine line between haven fun and abusing the car, but damn these are a blast wouldn't trade it for a slow SUV anyday!! one of these days we all should meet up and go crash the gutt or something the next cruising the gut is July 17 i'd like to see how many f-bodies we can get down town!! and who care about the 79 and older (classic thing) because they don't make our cars no more so ours are now classics!!!
MISOMWS6 06-07-2004, 07:00 PM Eh, you think you have it bad....try GR for a while, i'm lucky to see rice and to find a v8 stang of f-body.... forget about it. You can check out www.michiganspeed.com to find some people in that area:cool:
OneSickSix 06-08-2004, 12:52 AM Okemos here. But I'm only a V6. A clean one though ;) I know where all the meets happen though, so if you ever want to get a race or two let me know I can set it up.
Oh, also, just hit me up anyways. haha. I'm trying to get a local meet setup for us F-body guys ;)
95 Z/28 LT1 06-08-2004, 08:39 AM Okemos huh? I live near the Meridian Mall.
95 Z/28 LT1 06-08-2004, 09:46 AM It will be in another week or so. Then I need to get it tuned.
Timberwolf 06-08-2004, 10:32 AM I work in Lansing, not far from campus. My car will be back on the road in the next week or two. Rolling it into the garage tonight :)

I hear VT Engines does a good job with dyno tuning.

The guy I talked to that used to work there and dynoed my car said they were really backed up. Said something bout having upwards of 50 motors they're building right now. Nice shop even though it's Ford-biased. :p
95 Z/28 LT1 06-08-2004, 04:32 PM I have someone in mind already, thanks. ;)
OneSickSix 06-08-2004, 04:42 PM Speaking of all us locally. Would ya'll be up for a dyno day some time this summer? :D
Edit: Better yet, ya'll want to meet up at this place on MSU Campus called Tasty Twist? Then I can show ya where one of the meets takes place -- mostly imports but theres a few nice turbo supras, RX-7s, and fox body stangs out there.
BLACKBIRD8200 06-08-2004, 06:57 PM Are you talking about at that corner by the gas station as the meet? if so have you ever went down to the corner of jolly and cedar (gut)! if not swing bye some time you will most likely see us there's always a couple of us down there.

The one I go to is down at the old Farmer Jacks/Builders Square.. Where are you guys at?
And I still hate it when people call it "the gut", its not "the gut", the gut has been Washington since the 60s..
BLACKBIRD8200 06-08-2004, 10:37 PM what does your car look like? we are always at the jolly cedar plaza (the new gut:cool: )
OneSickSix 06-08-2004, 10:50 PM http://bellkevin.home.comcast.net/1.jpg
Like that.
So you guys are pretty much across the street from Central Truck Ford by Auto Body Credit union and all that?
OneSickSix 06-09-2004, 08:25 AM Anyone hiring by any chance? I'm looking for a new job.
ws6transam 06-09-2004, 10:22 AM I'd like to have the Lansing area folks meet at a restaurant for dinner on some evening in early July. I'm pretty much unavailable until then. I'd even wash the car for the occasion!
p.s. I cruised the Gut this last weekend, and had someone shouting at me, saying:
"FINALLY! There's a Trans Am! First one of the night! Where are all the Trans Ams??"
It was true, I counted only five of them, including mine: A '75, a '77, my '84, a beat-up '83, and a fourth-gen LT1 convertible.
For comparison, there were two '70 Challengers, a '71 Challenger, about five '64-'67 Chevelles, one Pontiac T-35, and dozens of A-bodies of various markings.
One of the more interesting cars that was there was a stock appearing Chevette with fender flares and Chevette tires. Under the hood was nothing but a steering box and a big black fuel cell. In the rear hatch area was a 455 Olds Toronado powertrain. Theré weren't any wheelie bars, but I bet with the right tires, that car could scrape rubber off the track surface for a whole quarter mile.
So, there ARE cars out there, though I have often complained that this town is an automotive wasteland. I think it's a Meridian Township / East Lansing/ Delta Township problem, though, because there seems to always be something interesting on the street in Holt.
You are right about lack of F-cars on the road: To tell you the truth, in ten years of living here, I have only once had the opportunity to line 'em up at a stoplight.
I think most of the F-cars in Michigan are found on the I-75 corridor from Detroit to Bay City.
BLACKBIRD8200 06-09-2004, 03:49 PM I went the th cruieing the gut thing this weekend i was there from about 12:00 in the afternoon to about 6:20 pm i only seen a couple trans am drive through but never stop! we all should get together some time this summer for a cruise or something

Also, the cops pretty much drop the hammer down on everything as soon as one person starts acting up.
Yup! Too true.
In fact, I wont go to Jolly/Cedar anymore because I don't like getting flushed out of there each time I show up. So, I bought me an 8-foot by 14-foot movie screen, and started at looking at ways to put together a cruise location here in Haslett where cars can hang out, have hot dogs, and watch an outdoor movie.
Unfortunately I cannot do anything that gets advertised because of township ordinances and the hoops required thereof. I still want to do it, but I need a lot of help with things like:
$100 application fee, and a township assembly application that includes an event and site plan,
$500K liability insurance policy, $350K property insurance policy, security fencing, participant tickets, bathrooms, and more. A major PITA that can't be done by one person: It can only be handled by a car club or organized group.
I do have a site sponsor, by the way: Vision Collision on Haslett Road. They will host the event and open their facilities for us, if I can get folks to help me pull it off.
I envision a cruise site that stays cool, and runs from 6 PM to midnight. A place where we don't get hassled by the police because they are participating in it as well. There's probably room for about a hundred cars, maybe 150.

This coming from a guy who pulled out of a Lansing-area f-body get-together at Chi-Chi's a couple years back and roasted 'em...... right in front of the Meridian police station.
And his kids were in the car, too. What a menace to civilized society!!!!
;)

I forgot about that :)
Of course, the police officer didn't pull me over çause he probably wet his pants laughing at me :p
OneSickSix 06-09-2004, 05:41 PM I dont think people around here care if we meet, businesses even, so long as if people bring food they throw it away.. Nobody races around in the parking lot or the streets.. And we just respect their property. Thats the big problem, people ****ing around. I wont go to Jolly/Cedar meets but for a couple minutes to say hi to some people because last time I was out there two high school ricer pricks drag raced a crappy S10 and a Saturn in the parking lot while LPD drove by. Dumbasses.
We should try meeting over in like the walmart parking lot that just got built -- I dont think they are 24/7 and I doubt that anyone would have a problem with that so long as we respect their property.
Does anyone know any local business owners/managers? Thats the best way to go -- find someone who knows someone and ask/let them know that we want to use it to hang out.

The cops simply tell the problem (us) that the owners of the property have requested that we not use their property in that manner, which might or might not be the truth.
That's why I am trying to get a site sponsor such as Vision Collision, then coordinate it with the township cops so that everyone is copacetic.
By the way, Kevin Cosik of Vision Collision has been very enthusiastic, and has done great work on my Minivan and Jeep. I'll probably have them re-do the whole Trans Am for 2006.

OneSickSix 06-09-2004, 06:36 PM Hey if we can get enough would ya'll be interested in meeting up at Tasty Twist tonight maybe?

BLACKBIRD8200 06-09-2004, 07:31 PM MY CAR IS IN STORAGE AND I TRY TO ONLY GET IT OUT FOR WEEKEND THINGS! BUT IF WE ALL SET UP A DATE TO GET TOGETHER AND EVERYBODY CAN ATTEND I'LL PULL HER OUT FOR THAT SO I WON'T MAKE IT UP THEIR TONIGHT SORRY BUT LETS SET A DATE TO ALL MEET. (SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS DIDN'T REALIZE UNTILL I WAS DONE)
