accroding to this .pdf (http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/pdfs/10_12_15W0_MAN.pdf) from JL audio there are 3 different ohm ratings for the 10WO... it says there are 4, 8, and 12 ohm subs. However elsewhere (http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/10w0.html) on their site it says they only came in 4 and 8 :confused:
Anyway, how do I tell what ohm my sub is? Im asking because I picked up a 10WO from a board member and Im in the market for an amp. I wanted to use the existing mounts and wires in my car, so I asked the previous owner what he ran and got an answer of: PPI-2250 or 2350... but it seems impossible to track down one of those.
Any input/suggestions here? Amp recommendations? Ive had very good experience with rockford in the past, so I was thinking about going with them.
thanks

it should say somewhere on the back of the sub, if not then you need to get a Multimeter and measure the resistance. A 12 ohm should read in the 10 ohm region, an 8 ohm should be around 6.5, and a 4 ohm should be around 3.2 or so.

thanks, ill double check for numbers, if not I guess I can always test it:)

ok I got these numbers off the sub:
1299/10W3D2
E11721
and I tested it, and got these numbers:
Rx1 = 14 ohms
Rx10 = 6 ohms
Rx100 = 4.5 ohms
so... Im still :confused: which reading do I go with?

Well just used a different and much better multimeter, and this one reads about 2.3 ohms for 1, 10, and 100. Which leaves me still :confused:

I am lead to believe that it is not a 10W0 since it says 10w3d2 on the back i would assume that it is a Dual 2 ohm 10w3.... could you check and see if it has two sets of terminals?

so that would be this sub? http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/pdfs/8_10W3_MAN.pdf
anybody have any recommendations as to what amp I should run? My friend tells me Im going to need a 1 ohm amp... can anybody verify that for me? Id like to get one with a remote volume control if possible
thanks

depending on how you wire it you can go with either 1 ohm or 4 ohm, and any amp in the 400 watt range will do great with that sub.

I run a Phoenix Gold T300.2 amp, 300 watts. The sound is awsome and the amp is great quality.

Meaning a cheap two channel amp running in bridged mode would probably give you the best bang for the buck. Try a Rockford 501S. Should be able to pick a brand new one up off Ebay for under 2 hun. 500WRMSx1@4ohms.

Well I pulled all that stuffing out of the box (hopefully that wasnt a bad idea), wired it for 4 ohms and sealed it with silicone since I was having major problems with air leaks when I tested it. I plan on buying a Rockford P2002 which makes 200 watts x1 at 4 ohms bridged.
that a decent setup?
