Want to get in to Programming

Well as the title says that is what I want to do I am tired of paying for updates. Also my car has some drivability issuses (miss fires at part throttle in the mid rpm range but runs ok at WOT) and the mail order tune is hit and miss and my local shop wants $600 for a tune. From what I have read LT-1 Edit is what I will need to with since tunercat is only for 93-95 cars. The real ? is how hard is this to figure out, I have a basic understanding and would say I know more than the average person. Also are there any good sites to read up on these products (besides this one and LT-1 Edits home page)

Two different computers. OBDI and OBDII. Some 95 cars came with OBDII.
