Tell me Ididnt break my rearend!!!

OK, when I get in the gas I always spin the 1st to 2nd shift. Today I did it once with no problems and on the way home had to punch it to change lanes. When it went to shift into 2nd it didnt spin, but instead the right rear just checked up and I felt a bump under the right rear side. It drove fine on the rest of the way home, but when I got closer to home I tried it again and I got the check up and bump on the right rear side again. What is the problem and what should I check for.

You didn't break your rear end! ... I haven't really had a prior exp. w/ this.. But a few of my buddies have and noticed that a brokedn LSD might do it while turning in tight circle's it would make a nice clunk sound.. PRetty loud too.. But thats all i know on how to check a rear.. Or you can jack it up and listend a little closer.. Good luck...

well if it your LSD i wouldnt drive it, because your axels are c clipped in and if one of those broke your axel can slide out!!

So where are the C clips at and is it somewhat normal for these to break?

What id do is do a lil brake torque. Hold the brake and slowly roll in the throttle. See if the drivers rear tire spins. You can lean out the drivers door and watch it. But dont fall out!!! If the drivers side tire spins your posi is still in good condition as far as making both tires spin. (clutches arent burnt) If you hear any funny noises stop driving it and take it to a shop that can open your rearend up. You dont wanna work on a rearend with no experience or alot of knowledge of its components and the PROPER way to set it up. Try that and get back to us with what happens.

Well soem stuffs basic, if your dropping your carrier, you gotta make sure tolerences are correct when it all goes back together. A newbie to rearends should not in my opinion go after anything that involves removing the gears. You should have someone at your side thats familiar with terms like the heel toe backlash etc

I think he was talking about a different type of rear-end.

OK, I just got done looking under my car and compared with the picture in my hayes manual there is nothing visible that looks wrong. This is probably a bad thing right? Anything else you guys can recommend I look for?

Did you try the brake torque yet? Heck, just romp it and see if you leave two strips of burnt rubber, or if you just do the one-wheel-peel.

Any *clunk* is not a good thing. The question is, "Where is the clunk?"

Yesterday I did a powerbrake in my driveway, but my driveway is gravel, however it spun both wheels equally. The clunk came directly from the right rear wheel when this all happened on Friday. Im kinda scared to do the power brake on the road, because I really dont want to really *** something up now, but I guess Ill try it next time I drive, which will probably be on Wed.

to be easier on your rear just in case go to the road in front of your house, and spray it down with water...this will help the tires get spinning quicker, have less friction and will overall be easier on the rear...you dont need to leave strips to do it, just have someone watch to see if both spin
