subthump custom amp rack

I recently purchased the custom amp rack that you put up against the rear of car from subthump link to rack here (http://www.subthump.com/acamarorack.htm)
I went online to look at subthump's directions for installing this thing, but if I wanted to access a rear light blowing out, it would make it pretty difficult. I was wondering if anyone who has this, came up with a way to install the rack so that it can be easily removed and installed. Ive been hurting my brain trying to come up with a clean secure way of installing this thing and I really believe it can be done.

For instance, I was thinking of putting a bolt going from the inside of the small 2X2 pieces of wood and coming out through the front of the amp rack, and tightening the rack to the bolt with a wingnut. But then i realized the bolt will probably spin when tightening the wingnut. Also the main support comes from the 4x4 block you place in the middle and thats on an angle, so thats another problem.

The bolt from behind would be easy to do. You can torque a nut down on it that would be under the amp rack. That should be more than enough to prevent you from spinning it with the wing nut.

Another idea would be to adapt a set of hood pins to hold the rack in place.

How often do you blow your tail lights out? If done correctly, you can uninstall that rack in under a minute. You only have to remove the 3 screws that hold it into place.

The rack is based on my original design so I'm a little biased :D

Anyway... The rack couldn't be any easier to make. And if you don't want to drill any holes into your car I have yet to see anyone come up with anything better.

I actually just followed the subthump directions afterall. Thinking of another way was making my brain hurt. I'll be taking pictures soon. I'm pretty happy with it now that its set up. Its a Kicker kx400.2 bridged to an Edesign sub that handles 1000 watts rms. The box is a fiberglass molded steathbox that subthump was offering for a short time, but I don't see it available anymore. I'm not sure if they still sell them. It gives you .9 cubic feet of airspace though. I'll post the pictures eventually.

I know this is a little late since you already got your amprack mounted; but this is another mounting idea for the Firebird guys because the instructions were different and I didn't want to go to a bunch of trouble.

I used the existing tailight screws behind the baffle, pulled off the factory plastic nuts that hold them on, stuck some holes in the factory baffle board and ran the threaded ends thru the baffle and attached the wingnuts on the opposite side. This secured the baffle to the car better. Then I mounted the rack itself on the top on either side of the trunk latch using two 2" long brackets, screwing one side into the rack itself and the other into the baffle board. The sides of the rack are held in place by the side panels and it feels very sturdy in the car.

Looks pretty good, but I may end up screwing thru the rack into the baffle from the front because the black brackets on the top don't look as clean as nothing there... but it's functional.
