to switch over to speed density while still retaining the flashability of '94+ pcm's?

what would be pro or cons of doing so?

I am thinking on doing it. It's easy with Tunercat. Just a check box. I do not think there are any cons to it. Pros; less restriction.

There is at least one con that I know of. It is more difficult to tune in SD than MAF. Someone that knows what they are doing will have know problems, but it does take more knowledge so getting a good tune can be more difficult.

I was going to try it and log some runs after doing some VEMaster reprogramming to see it has an effect. I am pretty sure most people believe that the VE tables play more into the tuning in SD mode. I will just have too see for myself.

in speed density all it you have is basicly VE tables to reference from, yes slight changes in the VE table make major changes in SD mode.

so is it worth it? or....

The more mods (read airflow) the engine experiences, the more viable/worthwhile the SD mode becomes. To put another way, if ya don't max the MAF, the switch then becomes an exercise in alot of extra flash tuning, without a significant improvement in torque output. BTW, the term VE tables includes alot of different maps/tuning variables. This is both good and bad. Good for fine tuning, and bad from the standpoint of alot of tables to go through. MAF is flexible maintaining tune (and emission compliance) with varying weather conditions, SD is not.
