ASR, on or off for good off the line

Im wondering how it works. does it really apply the brakes when transfering power to the other wheel? Is it one wheel or two wheels spinning with it off? Could you get better times with it on or off?

actually, it lets up on the gas when the wheels start spinning

some brake application might be involved also

Read this (http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=236148&highlight=ASR) thread :thumb:. It's from a couple months ago, but it had some good info on how the ASR really worked :) (ie: yes, in fact, the brakes are applied;)).

Run with it off for sure. If your having traction problems than you need to adjust your take off.....screw the computer doing it.....I get so pissed off every time I forget to turn off my asr and try and floor it and the thing kicks in, I mean seriously pissed off :mad:

Agreed. Got I hate that thing for dry weather. It is a good back up during the rain, too (although it never goes off, only starting off in puddles since your right foot is a better traction control).

Leave it off at the track or when flooring it from the start. Just don't full or in some cases 1/2 throttle the pedal. Let the tires catch first, no race is worth your life :)

yea, i don't have it thankfully, atleast a little weight saved
but anyways, i was watching channel 47 a few days back (spike tv i think it's called?) and they had car and driver tv on and they tested a ferrari which had traction control and it went 0-60 in 4.2 seconds
i think it was kind of advanced and it only held back just enough power to not lose traction
that'd be nice if the camaro's asr worked like that...

I keep it on because it won't have any affect unless your tires slip.

That would be nice, but please find me an F-body that doesn't break the tires free from time to time!? :p That's why everybody turns it off! ;)

It's only a switch, how difficult is it to reach up and turn it off?:confused:

When my wife drives the car in the rain the odd time - it's saved her from going sideways when it's not wanted.:bow:

I think the switch to reverse the mode of the ASR is hilarious....:lol:

Oh I am very grateful for having it, don't get me wrong. I am an 18 year old kid and I specifically looked for one that had it for the obvious reason that I am 18....

I have turned it off four times in the 2 months I have had the car.

Two of those times were at the track, one was in a parking lot, and the other was to see if it worked.

unless it is raining or ( snowing :mad: ) mine is off. dry pavement and asr off = fun fun fun :cool:

I have the habit of reaching to turn it off when I start my car. BUT a couple days ago I was driving on the beltway here in the DC area, and it was pouring, saw a HUGE puddle I couldn't avoid, I hit the puddle, the rear end started going back and forth just a bit, the traction control kicked on, and I went merrily on my way.

Don't want to think about about what could have happened had I not had it on, or not had it at all

Nothing?:think: Why should there be any difference with or without traction control?:rolleyes: Unless you were trying to accelerate through the puddle, just let off the gas and "coast" through it;).

IMO, I'd rather KNOW how to drive than rely on my car saving my a$$ and getting/keeping me out of trouble:confused:. I've made it through 2 pretty typical winters so far with my car and had no problem.....and NO trac control;).
