i have a 00 with the monsoon system. Half my speakers are blown and what i would like to do is buy an after market amp and buy aftermarket speakers. But from what i hear most aftermarket soeakers are 4 ohms.
1. ohms? does the monsoon HU run at 2 ohms?
2. so if i want aftermarket speakers in my car i need a new HU?
please help me

The woofers in the Monsoon are powered by the POS Monsoon amp and are 2 ohms. The tweeters are run off of the HU and are 4ohms.
If you want to upgrade the POS Monsoon system it's a good idea to just replace everything IMO.

If the Monsoon amp can power 2 ohm speakers it won't have any difficulty powering 4 ohm speakers. 2 ohm speakers draw more current from the amp. So pick whatever replacement speakers that sound good to you.

from what ive heard if its running at 2 ohm and you slap a 4 ohm speaker in it, ive heard it sounds like crap because its not as loud as the monsoon speaker that runs at 2 ohms.

Not being as loud is not synonomous with "crap."

This may help. I am pretty happy with this setup.
