Are egyptian cotton towels better than normal cotton towels?
Talk about an advertising gimmick...
I don't think Egypt has the environment that's really suitable for growing cotton, and even if it did, it would be just like the cotton produced over here in the usa.
If anything, the vendor might have made the towels softer in the manufacturing process- but if that is also accompanied by a big price hike, I wouldn't get them.
The best luck I've had is with the lint free ones at Advance Auto. I can't remember what they're called, they're really close to the buffing pads at the store I go to though. They usually come in different colors if that helps. Softest towels I've ever used.

Actually Egypt is a very large producing country of cotton, cotton growing loves hot and dry climates (we raise cotton on our farms some years) , but the very best cotton is Supima cotton towels, if you click on the link I am posting below and read it you will know way more about cotton toweling, in the link there is a paragraph that tells the difference between Egypt cotton and others...

The other difference with many Egyptian cottons is that they are organically grown (no pesticides, chemicals, heavy metal dyes, etc.).
So, they will tend to be much softer than normally-processed cotton.
