Hood Vents

Anybody made the vents on their hood functional? It seems like it would keep the temps down, but how would that additional airflow into the engine affect the aerodynamics and stuff like that? Also, if you have done it, how and any pics would be cool.

i know a few guys who have done it. just remove the front plastic insert and cut out the hole.

the problem is that the passenger side is awefully close to the ECM...

i can easily see rain getting in there and possibly causeing problems

I wouldn't they leak enough stock [I took mine off and sealed around, them so they won't leak..]

Yeah, well, I wouldnt like cut the whole thing out, just maybe drill a few holes in it, to get some cool air circulating down into the engine bay. I think it would be a good idea, but the only thing im worried about, is the possibility off too much air getting under the hood and wanting to push the hood up and off.

i don't think that would happen...least not at sub-sonic speeds ;)

teke184 is correct. I have a set that I opened up for use at the track and shows on my 97. I never noticed any difference in handling at highway speeds to and from those events. You will have to cut the hood insulator around the back of the vents to let the air in, if you still have it, that is. I would not reccommend leaving them on. They let in a ton of dust and dirt, even if it doesn't rain and flood the whole engine compartment. Don't ask how I know. I also never saw any real difference in temp moving or setting still. They do look cool cut out though.

Yeah, it doesn't seem woth it to me. Didn't even think about an even dirtier engine bay.
