Is the remote wire needed?

I have heard that the remote wire is not needed. Is this true? I ran all my wiring and forgot to put it in. It would run with the power & speaker cables correct?

I guess I can always strap it on if needed.

The Remote wire is used to turn on External Amplifiers, and on some HU's to actuate the Power Antenna.
