I have a brand new set of BFG drag radials in my basement..with MAYBE 50-100 miles and ONE burnout on them, my only problem is that they are 15" tires. Pending that I can find a 15" rim that will fit bolt pattern to the 94 Z28, i want to take the car to the track, and REALLY dont want to ruin my new Traction T/A's. THe smaller wheel.tire combo would make the gear ratio taller right? i have 3:23's in it, so wouldnt it raise the ratio for better acceleration? My car could use a little extra acceleration, but i just wanna get an idea of what it runs before i do my headers and cutout...Is this an "OK" idea, and work to my benefit, or will it make NO difference at all? if so...anyone have any ideas as to what rim in a 15 could fit the camaro? I dont know the exact tire measurements but i will dig them out tomorrow...any ideas??? Thanks

Jon

There are any number of aftermarket 15" wheels with the required 5 x 4.75" (120.65mm) bolt pattern. Some of them will fit the 4th Gens with no problems (Centerline Telstar, Bogart P1) and others may require grinding the fins off the brake calipers (Weld Pro-Stars, Draglites).

First, you have to match the width of the wheel to the requirements of your tires. Most of the 15" BFG drag radials will fit on an 8" wide wheel. For that wheel width, you need a 5.5 - 6.5" backspace onn the wheel.

As far as the impact on rear axle ratio, you've got it backwards. The only 15" BFG that comes close to the stock tire diameter (25.65") is the 235/60-15 (26.1" - your 3.23's will feel like 3.17's) . I doubt you would be using a tire that small. All the others are WAYYYYY larger in diameter than the stock tire, so they will slow you down, as if you had gone to a lower numerical gear:

275/60-15: Diameter =28" Your 3.23's will feel like 2.96's

295/65-15 or 315/60-15: Diameter = 29.8" You will need a Sawz-all and a can opener to fit them into the wheel wells, and they will make your 3.23's feel like 2.78's.

Its the tire diameter that determines the impact on rear axle ratio, not the wheel diameter.
