I am surprised you still even have that car. Did you ever do anything to the motor after all?

97SS4KS 05-28-2004, 11:38 PM Got a question to ask you guys,
Now that I have the 8300k low beams, what do I use for the high beams? and what do I do to upgrade the fog light so they will be just as bright?

Cool! Do you have any details of the install and how it went for ya?

Yes! I'd love to see this and get some additional details :)
97SS4KS 05-30-2004, 12:45 AM picks coming real soon. install was very easy. it was all plug and play. I used autoptics low beam shell (9006). most people on this site dont like them, but I have no idea what they dont like about them. it's just and empty shell. got the hid kit off ebay and installed both lights in 30min.
blackz151 05-30-2004, 01:36 AM i did mine a few weeks back wit hids i dont know how i drove wit out them. EASY install well for me at least the bulbs came out soo easy i think i just got lucky. Put the hids in syclone it all up and done
PDCamaro318 05-30-2004, 11:49 PM What are you guys using as far as the size? 9006? 9007? H1? H7? I would like to do this mod but I have always wondered what to use for everything such as the low and high beams and the fogs. Any additional details would be helpful.
blackz151 05-31-2004, 11:57 PM 9006
DontMixWithRice 06-01-2004, 12:35 AM i rigged 9005 and 9006 blue bulbs, and one of them burned within 4 months. so now im driving with my high beams on!
i would love to put hids...but what would happen if one of them burn out
97SS4KS 06-01-2004, 01:08 AM If one of the lights went out, order another. I dont feel that you will have to worry about those burning out for a long time
phrozen 06-01-2004, 01:53 AM this link has oictures and instrucitons for doing a HID conversion on the 93-97 Z with Hella 90mm: click me (http://lightguide.cz28.com/photo5.html)
97SS4KS 06-01-2004, 09:42 PM I hope these turn out ok.

Nope
Those aren't HID's
how is the aiming after the install, did you have to adjust alot or very little?
PDCamaro318 06-02-2004, 03:01 PM Do you lose the ability for high beams with the HID conversions? If not how would you do it? Would you just put 2 ballast on each headlight to accomodate the high and low beams?

Ususally you don't run HID's for high beams.
PDCamaro318 06-02-2004, 03:18 PM so i would just run the regular bulb for high beams or should i run silverstars? and how do companies such as BMW do their high beams? do they use regular bulbs also or do they use the HIDs?

Some use regular bulbs and some mechanically change the cutoff when you hit the high beams (same HID bulb is always on).
Yes with the 90mm's you would want some regular halogens for your high beams.
97SS4KS 06-02-2004, 08:09 PM no aiming required.
KingMetal 06-18-2004, 12:50 PM I know this is an old post, but I have to replace my headlights, and i'm trying to get as much info as possible.
You said "plug and play", so all you did for these was just open up the stock housing and put in the new HID bulbs?
Im new to all this lighting stuff
97SS4KS 06-18-2004, 06:07 PM Excellent Question KingMetal,
This is what I did first.
1.Went to AutoOptiks and picked up a sealed beam conversion kit
AutoOptike (http://www.autooptiks.com/front.htm)
Some of the members here dont like them, but I sure found no trouble with this kit. Go to the vechicle lookup on the left side of the web page and find out which Kit to use. The kit replaces the sealed beams that are on our cars. Or you can go to this website (http://www.eurolights.com/) and inquire about their kits.
2. Went on ebay got the HID's and installed them in about 30min. Thats it.
97LT1M6 06-19-2004, 10:55 PM Lets see some pics. Your one doesn't work anymore. :(
97SS4KS 06-20-2004, 12:05 PM click on the post labeled "pictures" it still works. Which link are u talking about?

KingMetal 06-20-2004, 01:18 PM When you click on the link, it says it Yahoo cant find the file, or something :(
What does the sealed beam conversion look like?
pu12en12g 06-20-2004, 01:37 PM Auto-Optiks is JUNK ! ! <--- Any thread containing the words Autooptiks needs to have this disclaimer :p

I'm not much up on the Autooptiks... I know you guys stay on top of it. LOL! But, anyway, what are the other options besides the Autooptiks?
Know anything about these?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7905723304&category=33710
97LT1M6 06-20-2004, 02:11 PM Did you get the 8300K or the 12000K??
97SS4KS 06-20-2004, 04:48 PM The sealed beam conversion are just shells without lights in them. As you can see some people do not like them. I bought them and always, ALWAYS get compliments. The blank shells allow you to use the HID kits. If you don't like them, try the other link I put in an earlier post. I have NO idea why others dont like them. They served my purpose.
97SS4KS 06-20-2004, 04:53 PM Hey Brent94Z,
That link to ebay are the same as Autooptiks. Seems like this guy is trying to make some money. I only paid ~55 bucks for mine. I use the 8300K with mine. Any higher than that and you might get stoped by the police
97LT1M6 06-20-2004, 06:24 PM I thought the 8300K, 12000K, etc... has to do with the color of the light not brightness?
pu12en12g 06-21-2004, 10:11 AM Best color temp is between 4300k and 6000k. Avoid ANY HID BULB THAT IS COATED to achive 8000k - 12000k
Autooptiks / that ebay link:
1. Overpriced
2. Bad design / parts
3. Improper seal will burn out the bulbs in rain (dangerous)
4. Housings often need modification to fit, so that they won't shatter.
JTS95TA 06-21-2004, 01:40 PM Not sure if I should be bragging about this, but I spent more money than all of you on my setup:-) I am running an HID projector setup from an Audi A3. This includes the Hella e-code projectors, Hella ballasts, and Philips D2S bulbs. Output is unbelievable and doesnt have the blinding output that the kits like the ones you guys bought do. Halogen housings are NOT designed for HID light. Install took lots of time and patience. Wasnt easy.
Here are some pics of the output on the wall very VERY distince cutoff line. Cant get this kinda output from your normal halogen housing:bow:

Totally agree with pu12en12g and the above... You guys that think the Autooptiks are great, you probably haven't experienced a projector setup yet. I have had Autooptiks on my car and then swapped them out for a Hella 90mm setup (still halogen, but not for long...) The difference is night and day.... Plus, you don't blind everybody else either... There's no shortcut to good lighting, all the elements need to be of good quality. A good housing should be the first thing you should upgrade.
JMHO,
Sam
ImportKILLER 06-23-2004, 07:19 PM I've been on the quest for HIDs in my car for at least a year now.
I think I'm chicken about having to cut part of the frame off.
JTS95TA, I may just have to buy you tickets to Cali and do it for me. ;)
JTS95TA 06-23-2004, 07:52 PM You dont have to cut part of the frame off. I just had to modify the black piece that the lights mount in. Thats just fiberglass and I made it so that the stock housings can be put back in easily if need be. Dremels are amazing tools :-) Hardest part of the project was making the projectors 100% weather proof since they were not going to be mounted in a sealed headlamp housing as they normally are.

I guess in that case I was also chicken... ;) I cut only as much as needed for the Hella 90mm install and made sure that I did not touch the mounting points of the stock lights. I can mount the stock stuff back (if I wanted to  ) My instructions (link in sig) show what I cut off and you will see that I can go back to stock. Like JTS said, the hard part with the AUdi or BMW projectors is that they are not waterproof. The Hella 90mm avoids that as it comes in a waterproof housing.
Just some more info to base your choice on...

Thanks. I'll probably do it (someday) and will likely have your instructions memorized by the time its all done.
