FAST LSX questions

Hi, I was looking at buying a LSX intake manifold...they make some pretty large HP and torque claims. My car has a lid and long tube headers, do you need a head and cam or something powerful to see a big result with the LSX, or would it give me substantial gains with what i have? Also, do you need the matching FAST Throttlebody or will the 78mm lsx fit the stock throttle body? Thanks for the help.

If you are not doing any serious stuff to the engine, an LS6 intake will be the best bet.

Why is that, Because the LSX would be overkill?? Would it be worth it to even get a LS6 intake ...or just leave stock?

If you have an 01-02 LS1 it already has the LS6 intake. It depends on what hp you are looking for. The LS6 intake is good for anything up to about 450 rwhp. If you are not going over that, don't waste your money on the LSX.

hey blaze:

are those the only mods you have to get that 375 rwhp?

Look at the latest Chevy Hi Performance Magazine. I read the article about the different LS1/LS6 Intakes and the worst was the Lingenfelter/Weiand intake, 6.0 Truck Intake was the best performing eventhough not by much like 4 hp more then th LS6. The LSX intake was around 1 hp more then the LS6 and 3 hp less then 6.0 Truck Intake. My money would still be on the LS6 intake since the 6.0 Truck Intake looks like there might be clearance problems with our cars and for the price LS6 runs around $ 300 versus the LSX which is $ 780 + and is 1 HP worth almost $ 500 more? Not worth it in my opinion... Note the tests Chevy Hi Performance Mag ran were stock displacement with the exception of the Cam.

wow, i would've thought it was more than that :(

My money would be on an LS6 intake

ive seen'em on ebay for under $300 shipped, you just have to be patient and bid on low priced ones and hope nobody else outbids you. Just be careful, ask a lot of questions, check the part #'s and make sure it either came off a 2000+ Camaro or a Z06

I am assuming you are talking about one of these on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=36474&item=2479859162&rd=1) . My question would be what else would you need to buy to bolt that on or is it a direct bolt on replacement?

Im pretty sure none of them have EGR(LS6) so thats one problem
Im not sure about your area but some places make a big deal about it. (inspection stations)

I bought block off plates for my car for the headers and EGR, that is noticable, but since the LS6 dont have it maybe they wont notice.

you also need coolant bleed tubes and plugs (something like that)

check out the LS1/LS6 section of www.paceparts.com, it's in the induction section...only costs like $40

You will also need to change your throttle body, or at the least get an adapter plate.

Better off to get a cam.

We sent ours back before we installed it because we heard that it will not hold over 10 lbs without the 3 pieces being glued together. We are staying wih the LS6 until we change to sheetmetal.

So with the LS6 intake, it is just a swap w/out any mods? It will bolt right up to a stock tb. And just making sure, it was said a intake from a 2000+ camaro or Z6, right?

It would have to be an intake from an 01or 02 Camaro or firebird.

01/02 fbody, or a Z06 obviously.

and you DO need other parts. you need to block off the EGR, and also buy the coolant bleed tube and plug (http://www.paceparts.com/subcatmfgprod.asp?0=308&1=324&2=1108)

other than that it is straight forward swap.

When it comes to the LSX, if you have big cubes and high flowing heads, it is heads and shoulders above everything else IMO. I have a high revving 12:1 382 LS1 with MTI Stage 2R heads with 2.055 and 1.60 valves and IMO the LSX was the only way to go. By the way they are Pre-bunged for Direct Port Nitrous, and they all have provisions for EGR if you choose to pop out the block off plate. As far as throttle body i believe a stock 78 will bolt up, I am running a MTI billet throttle body however, unfortunately this engine has yet to find it ways between the fenderwells of an F-body.

Z06 intake should be fine. LSX is way over priced and deosnt offer enough gains over the LS6 intake to justify its high price.
