I just bought a pair of Nitto 555R 315/35R17 drag radial tires on ZR-1 17" X 11" rims. I'm heading to the track tonight and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on tire pressure? I was told they work best between 18 and 20 psi, but since I won't be able to make too many runs, I was looking for some advice so I could get the most out of the runs I'm planning on doing.

18-20 Psi is right... Just get them VERY HOT. 15 Sec Plus Burnout is Needed.

Perfect, Thanks! The burnout was going to be my next question!

NOOO...

15 seconds is too much...

I think 5 seconds after smoke start it's ok..

315/35/17 should hook well and nittos 555 are really good over any other radial, so, 5 smokey seconds should do it...

Just remember to avoid the water box...

Well, I couldn't quite get myself to do 15 seconds. My burnouts were somewhere between 5 and 8 seconds. They worked really well, except when I had to wait for the other driver to stage for more than a minute, the tires cooled down and I'd spin'em off the line. Now that I have tires that hook, I need a stall, so I ordered a vigilante 2800. It just never stops.

P.S. Why avoid the water box? I didn't. Just takes too long to heat them up?

well, that could be, but most is that if you try to do your burns on water, the tires will sprinkle the water up, and will be dripping over the tire, and you will be spinning half the track...
