hey guys, about 2 months ago i had to get a tranny replaced. i got quite a few mods on my car and when they replaced the tranny they put a stock ls1 clutch in. the clutch i had before grabbed a hell of a lot better than this stock piece of sh*t. what im wondering is do you think this clutch will hold up if i launch my car a lot or even if i drop the clutch and burn rubber? i got LT headers, open y-pipe, slp lid, new pushrods, rocker arms, piston rings, control arms, and new valve springs. its a 99 z28 m6.what do yall think? of course if i had the money right now there would be a bad ass mccloud performance clutch in there but i cant afford it at the time. let me know what yall think. thanks

The current stock clutch (on my car) is the same one used for the Z06 so it should hold 400 hp. I don't think the Z06 clutch was in production when your '99 was built, so I'm not sure which "stock clutch" they put on your car. Ask your mechanic if you have the Z06 clutch, or the 1999 stock clutch.

im pretty sure its the 99 stock clutch, not the zo6 clutch. but i might be wrong.....ill ask my mechanic. i know that the clutch they put in cost $800. is that how much the zo6 clutch costs?

I believe the Z06 clutch costs in the neighborhood of $650 just for the part. About 6 mos ago my clutch started to slip for an unknown reason. The car only had about 25k on it and I didn't think the clutch was burned up already. GM wanted $400 to take it apart and tell me if it was wear related (my problem) or a defect (their problem). If the clutch was worn out they wanted another $650 for the part.
The car was drivable so I kept driving. After going back and forth with GM a few times the clutch just stopped slipping. Now it is fine. It's the oddest thing. I've never heard of a clutch fixing itself, but that's exactly what happened here. The thing hasn't slipped in about 5 months (knock on wood). :D
