What does it take to put Thirdgen wheels on a Fourth Gen?FLyinlow89 05-19-2004, 07:14 PM I got ROH ZSs on my 89 GTA and love them. Im assuming they wont fit right on my 95 FOrmula......what does it take to make them work? Injuneer 05-20-2004, 01:21 AM The problem is the "backspace". The 3rd Gen rear axle assembly is 3" narrower than the 4th Gen, so the 4th Gen wheels need more "offset" (more backspace). If you put 3rd Gen wheels on a 4th Gen, the outside edge of the wheel/tire will be moved 1.5" further out than they were on the 3rd Gen. Nothing you can do short of cutting the wheel into pieces and having it rewelded. It depends on the exact width of the wheel, but putting a 3rd Gen 8" wide wheel with a 15mm offset on the 4th Gen would move the wheels toward the outside of the fender to the point where they would be just barely under the fender in the back, and slightly outside the fender in the front. Some 3rd Gen's had different offsets for the front and rear wheels, which complicates things even more. You might just want to try swapping them on the 4th Gen to see if you like the look. FLyinlow89 05-20-2004, 05:04 PM thanks. I knew 4th gens have a higer offset, but ive seen people but IROC and GTA rims on 4th gens so i just wanted to see. Im prolly gonna try my ROHs on my Formula anyways, just need a chance | ||
