Will 275/40/17 fit a 17x8 Rim?

I am getting a set of eagle 077 17x8 inch rims. I need to know which size tires to get. I want 275/40/17 but I am unsure if they will fit a rim that narrow.

Thanks,

Devin

8 inch is a little narrow for 275s. I've heard about people running 275s on 8 inches, but it's not recommended. Here's what Goodyear recommends for 275/40/17...at least a 9 inch wheel.

If I were you, go for 9 or 9 1/2 inch wheels. I have 18x9 and kinda wish I want to 9 1/2. The 9s only recommend I go as wide as 275s...was thinking about 285s.

Just something to think about, before you dump some money for wheels.

so like a 245/45/17 would be good?

Seems so (http://www.goodyeartires.com/goodyeartireselector/display_tire.jsp?prodline=Eagle+F1&mrktarea=Performance&treadwidth=245&aspectratio=45&rimdiameter=17&sidewall=VSB) :p

Yeah, 245's will be your best bet with that rim.

9" rims can go 285
10.5" rims can go 315
11" rims can go 335

That's what I've always seen. Sure, you can stretch it and go 315s on a 9" rim (a couple friends tried it) but the bulge just makes the tires wear a lot quicker, and you don't necessarily have a larger footprint.
