Steve Y 05-16-2004, 12:44 PM Finally raced a bunch of guys with the DRs at the local grudge racing 1/4 mile track. It has a brand new concrete launch pad with lots of rubber on it from big slick cars. WRX with 1 passenger, exhaust, intake, more boost etc. was first up. I heat the DRs and out launch him by 1-2 cars and pull him slowly all the way to about a 5 car win. Next up is a Stage 2 SRT-4 on street tires :D. I out launch him by about 4-5 carlengths and he pulls closer all the way and I end up winning by 1-2 cars! Last is a '93 LT1 with a tb and a rebuilt engine on street tires. I had one passenger he had none. I pull him by about 3 cars out of the hole and maintain it or he barely pulls the whole way, so I win by about 2-3 cars. These DRs are the best thing to put on any rwd car! I bet on average I am at least .5 second faster in the 1/4 mile with these tires vs. streets. No times at this track so I don't know for sure yet. Street tires are worthless!
Nice kills. I'm hoping my Nitto dr's I'm getting this week will help pretty good. I hate loosing off the line
Josh-'04 GTO 05-16-2004, 01:35 PM Good kills! :thumb:
Grifter 05-16-2004, 08:24 PM Drag Radials are pretty awesome.
My friend got a pair of Nittor DR's for $100 and ran a 13.98 with his '94 LT1 M6. All he had was a Catback, CAI and a B&M Ripper.
We also had some friendly races with a friend who wnet to the track with us that night. He has a 2000 Saleen 281 Mustang. We raced him 3 times from a stop, pulled on him HARD from a dig and we were beating him until the top of thrid. All because he couldnt hook up and we could. He had 1 person in the car, we had 3.
It's pretty great when you can get all that torque to the ground.
FastZinTennessee 05-17-2004, 06:03 PM Drag radials=advantage:alert:
I loved the BFGs I had on my car. Mmmmmm holeshot!
Z28Nut 05-17-2004, 09:18 PM I love my Nitto 555 DR's -- 315/35/17. Too bad the car is now parked waiting for a new ring and pinion 'cause I took some teeth off of it pulling out of a gas station:( The shift kit hits hard in 2nd and it made all sorts of noise immidiately after the shift. Gears and LS replaced with Eaton posi and 3.73 less than a year ago. But while it lasted, the tires hooked so much better than the Dunlops:D
hurricaine418 05-17-2004, 09:43 PM since i got mine (bfg g-force dr's) i cant break the wheels to save my life. cant complain tho i guess thats what i wanted. helped with juice against a cobra but a week after i had them installed one a chunk of metal in it and had to get it patched.
Bluntdogg 05-17-2004, 10:19 PM Nice kills. I would have expected the WRX to hang closer on the launch but your driving compared to his was obviously superior.
black97z28LT1 05-17-2004, 10:54 PM oh yea, i love the BFGoodrich Dr's....simply amazing! Its the best when you can be in first gear and having a really high rpm and just hammer down and feel the tires just hook like a motha! For sure one of the best things you can do without adding horsepower:bow:
Steve Y 05-18-2004, 08:29 PM Running rwd or fwd cars with street tires against my car with DRs feels like cheating to me :D. They don't stand a snowballs chance in hell against me in the 1/4 mile unless they have a big horsepower advantage and/or can drive very well. I was hunting for near stock LS1s all night in hopes of chalking up some LS1 kills but there were none near stock. I think I will fare very well against stock LS1s in the 1/4 mile with average drivers, we will see.

Lol, I hear ya. It's great getting a 4+ car lead at the launch against superior powered vehicles. It's then up to them as drivers to run my ass down. It's much easier being in the lead, and watching them in the rearview (figure of speach;)) knowing they are praying they dont make a mistake, knowing there getting beaten by a car with 100 less h/p:D.
SFB767 05-18-2004, 09:33 PM So what are your new times with the DRs?
scott9050 05-18-2004, 09:50 PM I need DR's very badly. I think I could get some 13's flat with them.
darrens99formul 05-19-2004, 12:36 AM Nice kills steve. I wish I lived closer to you. I'd love to run your car at a track for fun. I think we'd be a real good race. But I can pull a 2.0 60' all day on stock tires (one of the advantages of the A4) so I don't think you'd pull multiple cars on me out of the hole. Still I bet your in the 1.8 60' range now don't you think? That's enough to put at least one full car on me and make me play catch up.
Win or lose it would be fun to run ;)
Good Job! Now get some track times for your sig.
Steve Y 05-19-2004, 12:44 AM Thanks for the props, guys! I wish I could give you guys new times but that track is grudge racing only with no times or trap speeds. The best 60' I ever pulled was a 2.23 with new 225/50R16 rear tires. I would guess a 2.00 or better with these DRs. Some day I will make the trek either 85 miles each way to the 4000' altitude track or 140 miles each way to the sea level track. :( Sucks being so far from real 1/4 mile tracks. I would love to race you Darren! I will run a nearly stock LS1 sooner or later and get back to you guys.
1BadAzzGT 05-20-2004, 07:06 PM Steve Y,
Nice kills.
ThirdGenZ28 92 05-20-2004, 07:09 PM Drag radials dropped me from a decent 1.9 60ft to 1.76 as a best and mid 13s. Well worth the investment.
JSK333 05-24-2004, 03:44 PM Are your DRs 245s? I had Nitto 245 DRs and increased traction even more by going to 275 17" DRs. It was amazing how much it increased! I can even spray in first gear now with only a little squeaking. ;)
As you increase power, consider a wider DR, you'll just gain even more traction.
ThirdGenZ28 92 05-24-2004, 07:20 PM Mine were and are 255/50/16 BFG drag radials.
aforut 05-24-2004, 09:10 PM Any other poor people who can't afford tires every other month? :( Anyway nice runs man, my friend back home has a WRX and they are pretty d@mn quick!:thumb:
CrippleFightin 05-24-2004, 09:19 PM Good stuff man! Wanna buy me some DR's? I REALLY need em! I just ran the times down below on Friday. I was happy with the 60' considering I am running some Generic Remington street tires. Gotta get me some Nittos....
Antz97ZNJ 05-25-2004, 06:45 AM You get to a certain point when drag radials are useless...If ya want great time ETs are the way to go

I have them mounted on cheap rims and only run them at the track. They should last for many years that way. I am running 255/50R16 BFG DRs.

True, but I don't think i'm there yet with only about 215 rwhp at this altitude. That, and I don't have the $$ to replace the rear end and tranny with hard launches on slicks.

Guys are running 8s with DRs so that point is higher than most will ever reach.
