stevepark 05-14-2004, 12:31 PM 84 Z28.........When I go to start my car, somtimes it turns over really slow..& then WHAM it starts. I just had the alt replaced,my battery gage is up around 13,so I know its charging the battery. It seems to happen after I have been drivin awhile.Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?......Man its always somthing:confused:
Marc 85Z28 05-14-2004, 01:02 PM Of the several things it could be, the starter is the most likely cause. And since you claim its worse after driving, it sounds like you are heat soaking the starter. I'd replace the starter while its warning you it needs attention, rather than waiting for it to quit altogether and leave you stranded :)
stevepark 05-14-2004, 01:06 PM thanks will do the starter is only like 2 years old .....maybe i got a bad 1
Pneumatic_Tire 05-14-2004, 02:34 PM Better yet, try installing a heat shield around the starter. I don't know if you can buy them, or if you have to mikey mouse one. Good luck.
stevepark 05-14-2004, 05:05 PM but the heat never bothered it before? can it just start bothering it like that?

Lol! you don't bake a potato in five minutes it takes time! Your starter has been there for awhile and gets cooked every day, some times the starer never goes out, other times they only last a short time. It just depends on the day and person who made it,and their quality control. Cheap replacement starters (ie.Peep Boyz,Kragens, etc.) don't hold up well as they are made in foreign countries with poor quality control, affordible yes, dependible NO!

CamaroStylin 05-15-2004, 03:15 PM My 88 v-6 does it too! the starter in there is only 6 months old. the engine's only got 15k on a rebuild. i dont get it! the starter i got is from CarQuest, which sells good parts. we buy ALL our parts for the service station from them
aklim 05-15-2004, 10:45 PM Could the battery cable not be good? Do a load test and you will see.
Zepher 05-16-2004, 04:55 AM They sell heatshield wrap for starters, costs about $25 and fits most starters.
Replace your battery cables.
