Supercharged V8? (an LS2?)

Motor Magazine June 2004
Article by Mark Fogarty.

A supercharged engine option could be the trump card in the all important numbers game that has become the driving force in the premium performance car market.
HSV is seriously studying a sophisticated supercharger conversion being developed by aspiring hot Holden player PWR Performance to provide a big boost to its top end models.
The blown version of the 5.7-litre V8 promises the power that HSV is chasing to deliver a blow to arch-rival Ford and German muscle cars.
PWR's intercooled supercharger package - developed in the states with an unnamed supplier - promises spectacular power and torque gains that pump out 380kw and 600Nm.
MOTOR understands that PWR has achieved the big numbers in dyno testing in the USA and Australia, as well as in a Pontiac mule in the US.
The supercharger option is initially being targeted at a still-secret limited edition of the up - coming Coupe4, providing the major mumbo it cries out for to fully exploit its all-wheel drive underpinnings. But further down the track, its likely to be offered as an option on rear-drive HSVs.
PWR patron Kees Weel and HSV honcho John Crennan won't comment on the project. However, Crennan holds the view that the performance market is driven by fat figures.

< :D Smiles and whips out the ol' engineering cap to bring commonality and normalcy to these hanus metric units!>

380Kw ===> 380,000w / 746w/hp = 509.38hp
600Nm ===> (600N*m)(1/4.4482 lb/N)(1/.3048 ft/m) = 442.54lb-ft

510hp and 445lb-ft sounds pretty good to me! :thumb:
Nice job. Should be great if the durability is there. Remember the warranty guys!
I would have thought we'd see more torque though:confused:

I don't think it will be the end-all of all motors though, considering the new L is coming with 550 or so, and the next Cobra (er, um, make that GT500) will likely have 500 too.

Like we've said before, the power these days is just unreal.
It's gonna end sometime soon... it just can't keep going with gas at $2/gal or better nationwide. :no:

Any guesses what tuner shop here in the states did the development work for this? I'm guessing Vortech or ATI maybe?

here are some other HSV goodies, that might filter through to a version on the GTO like the ohlins suspension seen here (http://www.micro-op.com.au/execls1/aps.wmv)

as for the magnason eaton supercharger, sure they have a kit for the GTO, but so do vortech and the others i supose, although GM is using eaton currently so it would stand to be the obvious choice.

here is the current vortech kit-

Very nice looking units - both of them! :bow:

I have to admit, I am more partial to the twin screw design over the centrifugal. The twin screw seems to be at full boost earlier and provide better curve growth.

It just seems like all the piping and remote oiling required for the Centrifugal units make them look "cluttered" and DOES make it difficult to work around for regular maintenance.

Either way, those are some BAD goats to come accross on an open road. Those will break the heart of a few unsuspecting Mach 1 owners! :(

Or if you are stuck in the Muscle car era, that translates to about 728 HP (pre 1971 rating), and 635 lbs/ft of torque (pre 1971 rating). ;)

Calling PacerX.

Didn't he say something about believing the Blue Devil Rumors because the company he is working for 'may' be developing one of the key parts? I think HSV wants the Blue Devil motor for down under. Maybe they will trade us a few UTES for the motors to keep things even.:D
