I was casually taking my mother out for mother's day to Texas Roadhouse late Sunday morning. My sister rode along in my 94 Z/28.
I came to stop light and stopped a few yards back from being even with this crew cab 4x4 Dodge Hemi Truck. Lately with the nice weather when I come even with people at stop lights they think I am trying to race them. So I deliberately try not to engage unless its a worthy opponent.
Anyways, I stop and joke to my mom and sister "Hey you think he's got a Hemi?" Sure enough when I look up to the cab I see this guy's girlfriend look over at me, I figure this is typically long stop light procedure since even I was getting bored at this unusually long red light.
I continue to watch then light when I notice the Hemi inching foward to the white line as if there were stagging lights on the road. And my sister says that "the guy keeps staring over here" So I look up again and see the guy leaned back and taunting me and smiling through his tinted crewcab window. I am thinking -he must be joking- And just as the thought crosses my mind, he POWER BRAKES the damn thing till the tires begin to smoke. I uncontrollably burst into laughter and shake my head disapprovingly.
Then the light turns green and I coast out wondering if he'll make a run for it, and of course he does. After a few yards and a few mph from stop, I dump the gas and shoot by him easily. Laughing all the way, ha ha ha...
I then begin to slow down after I wave out the T-top, thinking, now is the perfect time for a "That thing got a Hemi" punch line. But as soon as I start getting close I think he realized what I was going to do and he turned off quickly without even using a blinker.
We proceded to lunch and my sister bragged up the story for the rest of the day to her friends and our family.
I guess I should have had my sister record it and we could make it into a Chevrolet Commercial :D
Well it turns out the Dodge Hemi owners have gotten quite cocky with the introduction of the 5.7 to their Rams. And have watched too many fantasy Dodge Hemi commercials.
I was happy to remind him who owns the road...The Bowtie and Chevrolet 350
