2005-2006 Silverado question

Hello, I've always loved chevy/gmc pickups and have over 220,000 miles on my 1995 GMC Sierra. I resently looked at a 2004 Ford F150 and was very impressed with the interior quality although the motor left a bit to desired. I wondered if anyone knew when GM would revamp the pickup line ? Any news on more powerful motors etc ? I looked at an LS and an LT and the interior looks horrible compared to newer models. Also the overall truck seems quite outdated and "long in the tooth" I don't feel like the trucks are worth the $28,000-$35,000 asking prices. Thanks in advance, any help would be greatly appriciated !!!!

well, I wouldnt say the whole car is outdated. The powertrains offer equal power with better fuel economy using less valves. As far as the interior, thats getting revised in 06 or 07 I belive.

I've seen the '06 GMC Full-Size Truck and it is very nice looking, it has a huge grille in front sort of like the big Dodge trucks but with out the big rig look and more open. The rest of the truck looks slab sided kind of like the new F-150. Unfortunantly nothing ground breaking styling wise. I visualized the Chevy looking close to the GMC but with a big bar through the grille, though I am just speculating I could be wrong. I haven't seen the new interior, but I suspect it will be updated and be very nice, with the money GM puts into trucks.

The 5.3L V8 in the Silverado get bumped up to 310HP for '05. They will be out late this summer.

Can you point me to pics of the '06, any idea on the interior ? Also 310 sounds pretty weak. I figured with Dodge running commercials every 2 minutes w/ the 345 hp HEMI they would bump it up more. I looked at the colorado and the interior was a big disapointment :-(

This is a sad time we live in if anything over 300 HP is considered "weak". :irk:

Yeah, I guess we are getting pretty spoiled. :p

Where'd you hear/read this? What about the rest of the engine lineup? I wouldn't be too surprised if Chevy finally gets the 325 or 345hp versions of the 6.0L that Caddy and GMC have had.

I agree. My truck was pushing 210hp. And now it uses some oil and is low on compression so who knows what it's making. I just kinda figured chevy would try to one-up Dodge and Ford seems to be doing well with the new F150. Also with Nissan talking about bumping up the HP to close to 350 and Toyota coming out with a full size truck with a bigger motor, now would not be the time to lag behind. I would be more exited about a nice interior to match Ford tit for tat. The interior doesn't look much different than my '95. There's just too much competition to mess around in this market

I agree, 310HP still beats the new 3v Ford 5.4L and 4v Nissan 5.6L.

Two years ago the 310HP was 50hp more than Fords top V8 and 55hp more than the top Dodge. infact it wasn't until the 2003.5 Ram that you could get over 300hp in a 1500 series pickup.

NinjaRacer, I don't really expect the Colorados interior to live up to the new F-150, The F-150 is a lot more expensive truck thus should be nicer, you get what you pay for, and since the Colorado starts at $16K I think it looks nice.

The GM '05 changes have already leaked out that is why I know about the 310HP, where did you hear about Nissan going to 350HP?

310 i believe puts GM ahead of ford and Nissan in the 1/2 market. Plus ford and dodge just did their redesigns whereas GM's will be soon and when the full redesign comes around, the 5.3 will probably be bumped up again or replaced by a motor with more power (hopefully). Plus the 310 hp 5.3 has DOD (if memory serves me correctly) which is an added bonus.

As far as the Nissan goes, I just heard info floating around. As I understand the motor i capable of much more. I've heard they can quite easily go to some sort of VTEC system for another 40-50 horsepower. And I wasn't comparing the Colorado to the F150, but if you look at the new Tacoma, it completly blows away the Colorado. As far as GM interiors, I think they've taken a turn in the right direction with the Vette and GTO. I'd like to see them hit a home run with the new 1500's. I've searched around, any idea where to find the pictures of the '06. Thanks :D
