Today Mustang joins Camaro in "Hiatus".

This morning Mustang production goes into hiatus (just like Camaro). The only difference is that Ford's hiatus is considerably closer to the definition of "Hiatus", and we know the new one is coming, when it's coming, what it looks like, and we don't have to wait years into the future or "have faith" to make it happen.

The last "Fox" based Mustang, the SN95, rolled off the line today. The plant Mustang was made at the Dearborne Rouge facility is the oldest auto plant (86 years old!). The new ones will be made at Flat Rock

The last Mustang was a red GT convertible that will go into Ford’s new Rouge Visitor Center. Ironacally, Ford's 300 millionth Ford rolled off the line last year. It was also a red GT convertible. ;)

He meant 300 millionth Ford.

That's a lot of Fords, damn.

I hope they changed the material used on the arm rest in one of the early V6 cars for testing too. The one I saw was the lime green color with stripes.

Texture was nice - a black leather-grained vinyl surface. But where your elbow sits on the armrest, it had cracks showing the substrate cloth already(white cloth shows against black vinyl like a turd in a punchbowl), but the rest of the car still looked like new. No idea how many test miles were on it - they wouldn't open this car up for interior views or photos... guess I found out why too! ;)

I still think they are headed towards a good launch with the '05. JMO.

As for the last one out of Dearborn, it is kindof heart-wrenching. But like said above, we already know the car is coming, and should be better than ever. I guess change isn't so bad in this case. Even more sad is the fact that they are going to tear down the remainder of the plant. :(
What about "historic monuments"?

Actually Ford still has the origional Highland Park Asm plant that started it all. Not much to see but it still stands and is marked by a Mich Historical Marker.

The Rouge plant that was building the Mustang was only being 1/3 used. Most of it was empty and costing Ford excess funds to keep it from becoming completly demoslished on its own.
Yet in the ashes comes new life. Ford just built a new Rouge Plant on the grounds for the F150. Named Heritage it offers tours and a good look at how Ford builds F150's. SO some history is lost but the future is preserved.

Of course ya dont silly. They have'nt even started any real production yet. Where I work we make the IP and there isnt and wont be any grain til Ford gives its blessing on it.;)
