Bone Daddy 05-09-2004, 07:43 PM Anyone that owns a 93-97 Camaro, or even *cough* Xride *cough* to look at their rear coil springs. I need to know where the end of the bottom coil is.
In this case I'm going to say If you were looking down on them, and the lower perch's (round) were clocks, 12 would be towards the front and 6 would be at the rear. Naturally 3 and 9 would be left and right side.
I need to know where everyone has there "clock set at" :p
Xride 05-09-2004, 11:33 PM I'll look tomorrow if you dont get an answer, but right now its raining.
I dont think it makes a difference though???
cause the bottom toutches everywhere except where it ends theres like a cm gap.
Bone Daddy 05-09-2004, 11:58 PM Thanks, I would appreciate it...
The very end of the bottom coil is what im talking about, the very end of the spring. It's position supposedly matters. BOTH of mine are about 10'sh. I was putting the scanned pages together and I noticed in the Haynes manual that is says to watch where the coil sets before you remove the springs, and it makes a big deal out of it. It also mentions they should "face the front". First time I've ever heard of this. I've always just plopped my springs in. Now maybe it was paranoa, but I walked out and noticed my other sportline equipped car and the stance was odd... I then checked with a few friends and they said if you didn't put the spring in the same position the springs would settle at different heights. Im about to put my second set in my project maro, so this suddenly concerns me.

Nope, still stumped... I await your reply. I would appreciate if you checked both yours if possible. I'll owe you a "skinny". :p

yes I am, or at lease highly interested in what everyone has. Do you mean the end of the coil is at 9 oclock? or are you being a smartazz and talking about the cut itself?
LPEdave 05-10-2004, 01:07 PM The end of the coil at 9 o'clock.
Dave

Both of them Dave? And thanks BTW...
Now waiting for "others" to respond.
LPEdave 05-10-2004, 01:22 PM Both rears, yes.
Dave
Bone Daddy 05-10-2004, 02:51 PM Hmm, i was wondering if one would be at 9 and one at 6 since the two sides are different. But good to know dave, thanks.
paging xride... xride to brakes/suspension forum please.
Xride 05-10-2004, 03:18 PM www.speedinc.ca/spring.JPG
both sides look the same.
Bone Daddy 05-10-2004, 03:25 PM I cant see the end of the coil! are they at (both) 12 oclock? And are those stock? and what about your other car?

I cant see the end either, I had to stick the camera through the wheel to get that;)
without taking off the wheels its hard to see.
I dont have hte salvage anymore, but if I did the rear suspension was the first thing taken apart.
it looks like the point of hte end of the spring would be betweet 12 and 4 oclock if the front of the car was 12
Bone Daddy 05-10-2004, 04:10 PM Hmm the haynes manual says "facing front" and LPEdave says a definate 9 oclock, so those two are in agreeance anyway. Mine is 10'sh and it seems that they should be less at around 9.
Xride the sig addition was not worth the limited info.. Ive been ripped! More info!
This is turning interesting, anyone else?

Bone Daddy 05-10-2004, 04:34 PM I mean.. one blurry pic and a guess at where the spring is. ;) Now I have to wait till Friday? :(

your welcome to stop by jack up the car and take off a wheel.
jsut need to bring your own jack cause I dont have one. hense the wait.
oh ya to get here jsut go north for about 30 hours driving time. ;)
from the picture you should be able ot line it up with yours and figure out exactly where its pointing though.
Bone Daddy 05-10-2004, 05:00 PM Maybe, if they were eibachs too.... what springs are those? And did you install them yourself? There both the same, correct?

they are the SLP ones installed by SLP.
the way the spring fits and looks should almost be the same.
Bone Daddy 05-11-2004, 07:08 PM UPDATE:
Well it's time to put the second set of springs in, and I looked at mine, they were 10-11 oclock. So I decide to try them at 11'oclock and there was a tiniest of squeek's. So I moved them to 9 oclcock also like suggested. Tried the suspension and heard the loudest commotion Ive heard back there, Turns out the RR spring was now rubbing the panhard rod bolt head. And both springs looked off. So even though the fronts are at 9 oclock, im going to try 12-1 oclock (which could be described as facing front as well) with the rears and see if that works. This might make the bilstein lover (xride) correct. :( SLP might now something we don't.
We will see what happens tom. I'm fed up with it for today.
