what vehicles will the Solstice share it's engine with?

The Solstice is getting the Ecotec engine, right? I know the Cobalt and Pontiac's small car are getting the same engine, right? Will any other GM vehicles use this engine?

And does anybody have any idea how much just the engine costs from a dealership?

Why would you buy "just the engine" from a dealership? That's possibly the most fiscally inefficient way to procure an engine.

Cobalt
Solstice
G6 (in 2006)
HHR ?

You're talking to a student of the School of Automotive Machinists. We build engines there...

Since no other vehicles use these engines yet, then where else but a dealership could I buy a brand new engine?

the 2.4 VVT Ecotec will be used in the G6 sedan, HHR, and Cobalt along with the Pontiac model in Canada. This will probably be found int he Malibu too. The G6 coupe and vert will only come with the 3.5 and 3.9.
You could probably buy one from a GMPP dealer as a crate motor soon.
There are several ecotecs, the 2.0, 2.2, and the new 2.4. The 2.0 usualy comes in boosted form, and the Solstice will be getting a 205hp supercharged 2.0 from the Ion and Cobalt. This comes from Lutz's lips in a recent interview done by Car and Driver.

There is also a 1.4L, 1.6L, and 1.8L Ecotec (http://www.autofieldguide.com/articles/050004.html)

Although these are not sold in the US

Why is it that boosted they come with lower displacement?

Saab is using 2.0 L turbo Ecotec, right? What about FI 2.4?

The 2.0 is the "Euro" Ecotec. It's a much heavier duty piece than the 2.2 or 2.4. It has sodium filled valves, stronger bottom end and oil cooled pistons. The 2.0 was designed to handle the added pressure of a turbo or supercharger.

yeah, the 2.0 is a forged unit. You can run a LOT of boost on that 2.0! I wish they used the turbo 2.0 from the 9-3, it would catch on with a lot more import minded kids who live for turbos.

There is no FI 2.4's outside of the Kappa concepts.

However, do not assume that it will be the same as the Ion RL/Cobalt SS. That goes for both displacement and TYPE of boost. Keep and open mind.

Turbocharged Solstices sharing engines with SAABs?

I'm not saying anything. I'm just saying keep an open mind WRT displacement and type of forced induction. As of right now, the Saab Turbo Ecotec is only 2.0L...

That's what I was thinking. That would make Solstice one hot little car, especially if you can KEEP THE DARN PRICE DOWN GM! ;)

So, why didnt the Ion RL and Cobalt SS also get said turbo 2.0 engines instead of the supercharged 2.0? If your aiming at the "sport compact" crowed, how the hell do you come up with a supercharger? These kids fap away at the sound of a turbo. A turbo 2.0 would be fantastic, not only for the Solstice, but for the Delta crew also.

Because the trend at GMNA at the time was superchargers not turbochargers. But a funny thing happened when GM bought the remaining 50% of SAAB. GM Powertrain inherited a whole bunch of SAAB know-how and doctrine in turbocharging.

Consider the current supercharged Ecotecs as merely temporary place keepers. Turbos are in the pipeline!
