Skyline R-35

It's been posted in the lounges "Nissan Skyline" thread. I thought the Turbo I-6 was killed by both Nissan and Toyota as of 2002, so if this "new" Skyline is in development, what will be used for the motor?

I would say either turbo or Twin Turbo 3.5 V6 or Nissans new V8. Which brings me to a scary thought. Could Nissan or Toyota (assuming they stop killing everything associated to Supra) bring a V8 RWD 2+2 ponycar to market before GM got off its ass and brought a Camaro to market?

That one's like a bad dream.

If they do, it won't be called Supra. I think it's more likely you'll get an AWD performance car out of them before a RWD.

Turbo 3.5L V6 or 4.5L V8

An AWD V8 G35 would be awsome :metal:

Ahh....I've heard way back when from some Nissan leghumper that the skyline would be brought to the states, but it would have a V8 and NOW that makes sense.

I don't know about the Supra though. Toyota doesn't really need a sports car and when the Supra was made it was a car ahead of it's time that they liquidated in the end. The big wigs of Toyota probably shudder when the Supras name is said. Besides, they're already joining in the Nascar Truck series.

I do believe that if Nissan makes a V8 contender AND it does well in sales that Toyota might make a 2+2 sports car to follow suit.

The G35, or G45 if it gets the V8 is a possibilty. The SUV uses the 4.5 V8, so whats holding back the G45? And if you are getting a coupe, you deffinatly know your gunna see the sedan get it and play with the big V8 sport sedans. How much power does the 4.5 in the FX make? I belive its 345hp? But if they make the G45 coupe, what would it go up agaisnt? Ever look in the back of the G35? There is no room for a rear seat! I know that they make one, but its probably uber-cramped. A V8 model would easily cost upwards of 40k and with AWD? We are talking Vette prices. It will see the same fate of the RX7 and Supra, too much money for the car. Why spend 48k on a "slow" G45 AWD when you can get a much faster, more agile, and better looking C6?

The next gt-r is expected to compete with the porsche 911, so prices will be in the 70-80K range

The C6 is supposed to go head to head with the 911 also. :D
Looks like Nissan wants to dance.

I have a friend who works at a main company for Toyota and has told me that there is a new supra in development with a V8. Not for sure if it's AWD or RWD.

That can't be right. I could understand Toyota working on a V8 Sports car, but it WILL NOT be named Supra.

I heard that Toyota may decide to sell the high performace car thats been rumored about as a lexus instead of selling it as a Toyota Supra.

Supra is DEAD. Toyota cancelled the program a few months ago.

Guys on the brink of car news. Does this hold any water? I know the G35 is pretty much the base Skyline, but V8 is probably the only way the "sports" Skyline will hit the states. Makes sense to me.

Don't tell that to the SUV-loving public. They will stop at nothing to buy them. Would sports cars differ?

DoD and similar technologies may also negate any disadvantages in fuel consumption.

DoD does NOT belong on a V8 Sports car. GM was thinking of doing it with the new C6, but the Corvette community said, "Hell No!" If you can't afford the gas that the V8 consumes then I'm pretty sure the V6 version will be at your local dealership. You can also pick up a 4cyl Cavalier or something along the like for a daily driver.

this is the dumbest thing i've ever read. what if tomorrow GM told you the V8 was going to get 10MPG. would you still buy it? because that's what it takes to afford a V8. ARE YOU ONE OF THE ELETE?! because that's what you're getting at.

if you were to put on a questionere a question such as: "if a performance V8 offered the gas milage of an economy V6 would you consider buying the V8?" without describing how this gas economy was achieved on the V8, maybe 1 out of 100 would say no. but as soon as talk starts about how ELEET one is, owning a V8 powered car, people are willing to say they will fill it up at every stop light.

If tomorrow GM said that the V8 would get 10 mpg then of course I would still buy it. I have a V6 now BECAUSE I can't afford the V8. Stock! the LS1s were getting AWESOME gas mileage. Some even quoted at 32mpg. You don't have to be "Elite" to go against DoD on a sports car. It's MY Opinion.

The POINT of owning a V8 sports car is for "sport" if you haven't noticed. What percentage of V8 sports car owners track their car? Much higher than the percentage of those that just drive a V8 "just because". WHEN I can afford the V8 I'll get one and I'll keep this V6 as a daily driver. Guess which one will be for race days? The V8

Dumbest thing you've ever heard? You should turn your ear to the grapevine and find out who GM polled/questioned on the C6 DoD specs. The Corvette owners saind, "Hell no!" and guess what isn't offered on the C6.....that's right DoD.
