Flowmaster vs magnaflow

I have a 2000 z28 m6, it had a magnaflow w/ stock piping. today I had a flowmaster installed (just muffler), it sounds way better, more muscle car like. no noticeable power loss.

I have no doubts it sounds better. Flowmaster is one of the best sounding mufflers for our cars. But you definately lost a few horses on that exchange.

But if your happy with the sound that's all that really matters. A few horses is worth it when your smiling ear to ear when you go WoT.

when people say they lose hp from the flowmaster....real world this is only 3-4hp....

that amount you will NEVER feel...but when you consider the most freeflwoing catback probably gains you 15hp....take 3-4hp off of that and you're down to 11-12hp gain from a catback...

right now i have 2 1/2 inch pipe straight back from the flowmaster, would it be louder if I put 3" slant 22" long tips on it? What would be better 3", 3.5" or 4" tips?

it may make it a bit louder...nothing horrible...kindda like a cheerleaders "horn" makes a yell louder

I have 3" 22" long slash cut chrome tips on mine, and it sounds sweet, only thing that will sound better to my ears is a set of 10 series, on my true dual system in the works.

For a street car, i would take a great sounding decent performing exhaust vs a great performing decent sounding exhaust. And flowmaster is what im looking for, dont let naysayers on the net change your mind :p

I wouldnt want anything other than a Flow master on my car I will take the hp loss for sound.

I'd go w/ 3.5 or 4 inch tips. i've got 3.5 on mine and i really like the size of them. l8tr

Flowmasters are by far the best sounding mufflers out there.
I don't know specifically what series mine are, but they're the single chambered ones, and they're LOUD and CLEAN, especially with my headers :D

I have magnaflow, and it was so quiet for a month it sounded STOCK. After a little while it broke in, and now it's still quiet, but sounds good at WOT. It makes the most power, doesn't attract cops, and you can't hear it until it's too late and you get your ass handed to you. ;)

I have flowmaster on mine and have read/heard alot about it being crap. Performance wise that is. Sound wise, I love it. Other exhausts are really raspy in the higher rpm range and crackle. I am going to keep it because it sounds mean :bow: :cool:

I have no muffler at all on my 94. Straight pipe sounds mean as hell. Now when I drive my 99 w/ Magnaflow ,the enire system.Well I'm thinkin of ditchin it too. For Loudmouth :D Anybody wanna trade?

But as far as the 94 sounding mean as hell.The 99 w/Magnaquiet is meaner than it sounds if ya know what I mean ;)

How do you guys feel about the SLP exhausts?

With cat/cats still on the car the loudmouth is awesome. Wicked sound, great price and one of the best HP gains you can get from a catback. But remove the cat/cats while adding LT headers and it's way to loud. Not a good loud either but a raspy loud with ear bleeding drone at 2000-2500 rpm's.

My Dynomouth sounds awesome right now but when I get LT headers I'm probably gonna swap it out for a Hooker catback. I hear they sound wicked with LT's and get good HP gains.

people are too hard on the flowmasters all my friends are constantly telling me to ditch it i like the sound and i just drive my car i dont race it.

I have heard magnaflow and flowmaster and I like the flowmaster way better.

I like you guys here on CZ28. there is some love for the flows

The sound quality is all about love. The HP gains are the only thing that occasionally get ragged on here. But like has been previously said you only give up a few horses so for the not so die hard racers it's all good. Plus you could always add a cutout and get the best of both worlds. Open cutout when you race and Flowmaster the rest of the time :D

Of course it's still fun to pick on the name considering it's kind of misleading. My favorite variations are Flowlessmaster and Flowcrapper :lol:

With Headers, Try running Flowmaster with no cats and 3' pipe. Sounds way better!

lol, yea... Flowmaster a.k.a ChokeMaster. One good way to feel the difference of what that Flowmaster does, use an exhaust cutout before the muffler. Run it open and see how your car responds. Close the cutout and compare the two scenerios. Don't let the sound fool you tho when your evaluating this, check for throttle response & acceleration differences.
