CamaroSS30th 05-05-2004, 11:47 PM 05 Mustangs look better on the road then than I thought they would... I took this picture while driving down 696 in Southfield, Michigan.

RiceEating5.0 05-06-2004, 12:18 AM Link/pic isn't showing.
And yes, they do look better in person.
Red5.7 05-06-2004, 03:03 AM Yeah, I have seen them out on Southfield. I have actually seen the '05 out 3 times. I saw it 2 times on Southfield and one more time on a drive back from the dragway. I can't remember what road it was coming off.
The first time I saw it was after the auto show this year, but it still had camo on the doors for some reason. The next time I saw it, it was totally exposed. The last time I saw it, it had camo on the front fascia and doors. I don't know why they still had the camo on it at that point... seeing as it was previously totally exposed
ProudPony 05-06-2004, 07:22 AM There are several pics of the red and white GT cars on the streets in/around Nashville during the big show there. I was suprised how freely Ford was driving them around actually.
They drove the white one to Nashville from Dearborn - it still had MFG's tags on it. They also drove it on the track during track time - it looks and sounds great at speed IMO.
If interested, there's several pics on Stangnet and Corral.net - look in the lounges and 2005 forums, search for "nashville +road", I don't have time to link them all right now.
One guy actually took several pics going home from the show, in which the white 05 and two other Mustangs are "running" together up the highway... at a "good" rate of speed too. The car does look pretty nice.

This is going north out of Nashville towards Kan-tucky.

still think the GTO's shape is nicer, not to mention more aerodynamic ;)
From what I've heard, the new design isn't any worse aerodynamically then the current Mustang's, and may even be a tad better

I wouldn't doubt it.
A grill still has a radiator behind it, whether it's upright or not. Also, the new one has headlight covers that angle towards the sides as opposed to the hood. Either way smooths out the airflow I'd imagine.
CamaroSS30th 05-06-2004, 01:28 PM Don't get me wrong... I Like the new GTO alot better.... But... for a mustang.. the new GT looks pretty good.

I had also heard the air flow under the car was improved. We should be seeing some good #'s and reviews in the next month or two. Option lists are popping up on the net now. In one of those lists Ford says the GT will have 300 HP (which we already knew) and 320 TQ. Not bad for 87 octane and small displacement. Those numbers are supposed to be underrated. We're talking Mach1 or better numbers at the track. People may not like the looks, but it's an incredible deal @ 25k.
RiceEating5.0 05-06-2004, 04:23 PM I've been saying "don't judge aerodynamics based on looks alone" for sometime now. Modern technology has come a long way, and a car can be quite aerodynamic, and not have a bullet shaped body. Case in point: boxy looking Volvo S80 has a coefficient drag of 0.28. And the big Lexus Ls430 luxury sedan has a drag of 0.26.
So i kind of figured aerodynamics wouldn't be any worse than the new-edge Sn95 cars. If Ford did their homework right, it might even be better.

I don't know why everyone makes such a big deal about aerodynamics. It's not like ANY car made these days is especially bad, and we all know the most beautiful cars were made before we really had any kind understanding of aerodynamics (I.E. late sixties and earlier).

I vote with this guy!
Gimme a '69 Mach 1 or a '69 Z/28 over these late model bubble-cars ANYDAY for curb appeal!

Ill third that... Old cars have awesome lines, and have the appearance of quality and sophistication... most of todays cars ARE ugly, and look like a cheap mass of tacked-together plastic. (yes there are exceptions of course, and my car is one of them;))
Ill gladly sacrifice that 1mpg difference in aerodynamics to drive a bad ass looking car.
Oh, NO!!! where are the aerodynamics!?!?!? (http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/6/web/438000-438999/438980_95_full.jpg)
They dont exist... but they dont need to either, cause one of these was still able to beat my car without breaking a sweat. Also you should notice that the car will be cheaper because you wont be paying for all that aero-testing.
oh btw... this is the opinion of an 18yo;)

The new Mustang has a lot more excitement and style in it's shape than the GTO, although I'm not sure what your definition of "nicer" is.
The new 05 Mustang does look pretty damn good in person. I seen one driving around in my neighborhood last week during the nice weather. It definitely caught my eye from a distance, as it did not look like any other car I normally see on the road.
On the other hand, I seen a GTO yesterday. After subconsciously dismissing it as a Dodge Stratus as it was coming upon me in the on-coming traffic lane, I realized that it was actually a GTO as it passed beside me.

Hopefully the same people on this site that bashed me for having a similar story won't bash you :( Thing is, it just doesn't stand out at all. This isn't necessarily a bad thing if you're looking for a sleeper.
BTW, the C/D of the Lincoln LS is .32 which is .01 better than the current Mustang and it's even "boxier". I'm expecting the 2005 Mustang's C/D to be about .31 +/- .01.
Magnum Force 05-07-2004, 11:30 AM looks decent, but so far I'm only halfway sold...I won't make a move until they offer a good irs

I guess I'm a minority around here when I say that I'll take aerodynamics over a brick. I personally think a 4th gen SS looks just as badass as a '69....oh and its quicker and faster and has more HP and can actually get past 130 MPH with those evil aerodynamics, aside from looking just as good IMHO.
Whatever aerodynamic advantage the new Mustang has over most other cars out there will quickly be dismissed by its huge frontal area, which matters just as much as drag once you get up to speed.

I didnt say all modern cars look bad, I love the looks of my car. I meant that in general, modern cars look horrible.
ZROC86 05-09-2004, 08:28 PM I thought they weren't out until August of this year what are they doing on the road now?
I do agree they look really awesome in person.

Job 1 is Sept. 7 but apparently Ford is producing small quantities out of AAI right now I believe to test the assembly line.
There are also a lot of prototypes such as that pic, running around. Testing is ongoing. Also, many of the cars are showing up at events to promote the lauch of the new car.
