Mr. Corvette sniffs SS exhaust

...trudging through commute traffic, I happen across a very nice silver C5 with some totally bitchen racing stripes and chrome aftermarket wheels.

I sense an "air of disdain" for the lowly SS that I am driving emanating from the silver 'vette. Occasional flashes of acceleration are noted, along with brief episodes of pass and braking, whilst transiting between other cars.

As the two lanes approach Novato, the lanes widen to three lanes and the traffic separates for our benefit. I hear a downshift from the vette to my front and left as he demonstrate his superior accelerative capability to the lowly SS. As the vette begins to pull away, I happen to locate 4th and press the accelerator pedal to the floor. Within mere moments, I am wooshing past the black-striped bowtie and crest the century mark, backing off gently.

He must be confused and apparently needed to be spanked one more time. So I comply again, by downshifting back to fourth (about 60MPH) and show him the SS's exhaust for a final sniffing.

A couple of exits later, I am nearing the E on my gas gauge and need to replenish. He passes and provides a complementary "thumbs up". :p

Nothing like a few pounds of boost to eliminate competition. Though this may not be fair, I refer to the $50,000+ for the Vette is still a way off different than my used $21K '96 SS and mods.

nice kill.

As far as mods, I would guess a belt-driven supercharger on an LT-1 as a starting point. Nice job !

Those items are considered as power adders to some C5 owners.

Good kill!

With my mods in my sig I raced a C5 and let him hit it first and he jumped about half a car from a 60 roll on the hwy and by the time I hit top of 3rd I had him by a full car then shut her down. This vette owner was cool to. Gave me a thumbs up.:D

Nice kill.

I have a few comments though... the only Vette owners who would have disdain for an Fbody is one who doesn't realize they have the same motor.

Secondly, I'm not sure why you used a price of $50k for the Vette, yet chose to use $21K for your used SS. FWIW, a few months ago I bought a 98 C5 for $19,200 for my wife. I liked it so much I'm now shopping for a good used Z06 for me.

It is more near $50g's though. My dad got a brand new C5 in 2001 custom made for him with all of the options except it was a targa top not a vert and it was around low $40g's.

Yes, I know what a new C5 costs. My point is that he used the *new* price for a C5 but compared it to the *used* price of his Z28. For all he knows, since he didn't mention any indication that the car actually was new, the C5 owner may have bought it used, just like I did.
