JasonD 04-29-2004, 12:40 PM Okay...I know that there are already a few other threads going on in this forum, but I think it would be good to make ONE thread for discussion about the event. I know it will not be all that active at first because we are still a few months away (for a change), but it will be a good place for me to post news and announcements. That way, everyone who is interested can subscribe to the thread (by clicking the "Subscribe to this Thread" link at the bottom of this page) and get updates in case they forget to check the event web site.
So, click the "Subscribe to this Thread" link at the bottom, maybe post questions & comments when you can come up with them and plan for the best Michigan GM Event yet! :)
For those who are new to this or haven't seen the details event web site, just go here:

That's next on my list. I expect to get that info in the coming week.
So, you guys who are gonna get the jacuzzi/party suites, keep watching!

Thats the plan.. starting a new tradition i think.
Timberwolf 05-02-2004, 09:45 PM <-- first person to pre-register this year. Just hope the car doesn't grenade before then. I wanna run quick 16 this year :D
JasonD 05-05-2004, 01:41 PM Still trying to get in touch with the person for the hotel group rate information. Bad timing when I call.
On a side note, we are again going to be raffling off a bunch of goodies, including a Nitrous Express (http://www.nitrousexpress.com) EFI or Carb kit! :thumb:
ALSO...
We have a new event sponsor! AMS Merchandise (http://www.amsmerchandise.com) carries officially licensed Camaro SS and Firehawk wearables, and they are expected to have a display set up at the event. By then, they may have additional items such as Z28 and WS6 merchandise.
JasonD 05-07-2004, 12:18 PM HOTEL GROUP RATE INFORMATION!
http://www.migmevent.com/m9/hotelinfo.shtml
The rates have not gone up since last year. :)
So, book your room and pre-register (http://www.migmevent.com/m9/preregister.shtml) and save a few bucks!
PhantomTA 05-07-2004, 12:19 PM Just reserved my room.
Party will be in the Suite like last year. :):):)
Just remember, what happens in the suite, stays in the suite!

Sweeeeeeeet!
JasonD 05-14-2004, 01:22 PM I am happy to report that Aggressive Auto (http://www.aggressiveauto.com) is now a sponsor of M9!
Many of us here know Bruce at Aggressive and know that he not only works on LT1/LS1 cars but has a lot of customers who own Turbo Buicks. In the past couple of years, attendance of Turbo Buick cars at the M Events has tapered off somewhat, and I am not really sure why. Hopefully he can bring a few more to the event to give the f-bodies more competition!

Well, I am not sure, we didn't get that far. I gave him the date and the info, talked with him for a few minutes and that was it.
I am supposed to talk to him again in a couple of weeks.
I hope my car is together by then. Progress is nearly as slow as it was last year.
QuickSilver02 05-17-2004, 07:17 PM Is this like a show up and drag kinda thing or do you have to pre-register your car or anything? Sounds like fun.:D

You could always claim that your car is now CHEVY powered, then tape a bow tie over your blue oval. *that* might get you in, as long as it doesn't blow off in the last 1000 feet. Better rivet it in place instead, eh? :D

The guys doing tech were supposed to have the cards. It wasnt until later that we were told that they werent doing it.
ws6transam 06-09-2004, 05:19 PM So, What's new with M9?? It's only four months away now. Time to call for volunteers that would like to help film for a DVD.
I need people with MiniDV recorders and / or video camera experience. I might be renting a professional camera and if I do, I'll need an assistant. I also need two assistants that can operate an in-car camera system for me.
Anyone up for making another DVD? I want this one to be even better than the previous one!

Its still 3 months away, and I'm already antsy.
If anyone throws a Superball at me again, I'm gonna throw them into the pool!
SilverStreak 06-21-2004, 03:06 AM Ahh yes, jumping in the pool for money, good times! a know this is off the subject but anyone know a good place to buy a reliable "cost efficent"(i'm poor) nitrous kit? I'd like to spray at the next event :)
AL SS590 M6 06-22-2004, 03:43 AM Jason,
How about a pure street quick 16 or 8? Regular street tires only no DR, ET, QTP, auto cross, or roadrace tires.
They have this class at the NFME and it gives the street car guys a chance to race heads up. It was a blast.
All it would take is for the guys that wanted to race this class, is for them to write street on their window then it would be easy to keep track of the quickest of them for the race after the brackets.
Maybe just a trophy class?

That would be pretty cool, but I'm wondering if there would even be time for that, doesn't seem like we have enough time to do the races we already have!
SilverStreak 06-26-2004, 08:51 PM was i imaganing things, or was it a two day event last year??
Nope, it's a one day event.

The CamaroZ28.com Nationals was a two day event last year. The "M" events have always been one day affairs though.
SilverStreak 06-30-2004, 01:48 AM Ahh i'm not going crazy!! when are the Z28 nationals? are they going on again?!
JasonD 07-17-2004, 09:03 AM Originally posted by SilverStreak

The CamaroZ28.Com Nationals was a two-day event modeled after the (one day) M Events. It was more of a one-time event than anything. The initial thought was for it to be an expansion of the M events, to replace it. There almost wasn't an M8 because of this but everyone's disappointment over the idea made me quickly reconsider.
Basically, the popular thought is that the M Events are better due to the time of year and the simplicity of them. In other words, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
So, there are no current plans for another National Event, but of course, the M Events are still being planned.
Less then 2 months until M9!!!

hmmmmm.............
maybe I'll get a room for 2 nights.......
MarkyMark 07-28-2004, 07:30 AM How big is the amerihost hotel? How soon do you think it will fill up?
ws6transam 07-28-2004, 09:02 AM I'll be there with one last hurrah for the Feeble305!
It turns out that my "bad cam # 2" wasn't a bad cam. It was an intermittant wire on the electric choke. Now it seems to be fast again. So, I guess I'll run it over to the track to see what she'll do. The new engine is coming together but not in time for the event.
SilverStreak 07-28-2004, 09:47 AM The hotel should be fine. But still book ahead
JasonD 08-03-2004, 08:15 AM Okay, we are coming up fast on this crazy event.
I am getting excited! Get your pre-registrations in and save a few bucks.
http://www.migmevent.com/m9/preregister.shtml
Let's start talking about it! Got any questions? Suggestions?
Set up some grudge matches, plan a hotel party, whatever! This is gonna be great!
Mogulskierk2 08-03-2004, 02:36 PM no more flying squirrel/lick and stick incidents from case sensitive this year though...ok?
It's bound to happen a few times
KKoepp31 08-04-2004, 02:54 AM Uh oh, the new motor should be in by the time this comes around. Probably couldn't get permission to give it a run this year, but I'll probably come back just to watch. Had a good time last year, just to bad I never got any runs in after getting the special exception from Jason.
dreamer1q 08-04-2004, 08:11 AM I will be there, but I might have to watch this year :( Guess we will see if I get lucky and get the motor back together or not. But I wouldnt miss the parties for anything

I will still extend that special exeption to you, I think last year I told you it was cool to give us a show at M9 since you couldn't at M8. :)
Just make sure that you e-mail me to remind me to tell the girls in the booth let you in without giving you a rough time. ;);)
JasonD 08-05-2004, 09:15 AM While I am thinking of these things, I want to remind everyone that I am always wanting to ensure that this event stays fun for everyone, so I am always open to reasonable suggestions for this event. You can always e-mail me directly if you like.
MarkyMark 08-05-2004, 04:13 PM I prepaid you by paypal for the registration.........how does that work, do you have a list of everyone who pays, do you send a ticket in the mail? Just curious, thanks.
JasonD 08-05-2004, 04:28 PM do you have a list of everyone who pays, do you send a ticket in the mail?
Both! :)
I keep a list at the booth, and I also send out wristbands.
MarkyMark 08-05-2004, 04:46 PM Do we sign up for bracket racing when we get there, or now.......I would like to enter the 12.50 and slower bracket racing....my car is very consistent....just gotta work on the ol reaction time.

Just listen for the track to call up your class during eliminations. When they call the 12.50 and slower class up, that's your call. :)
OneSickSix 08-08-2004, 12:59 AM Heres the important question. Never been to a REAL track before ;) Up until now its been country roads with some custom setups that farm boys have made or an old runway that was once used for cropdusters in Charlotte. How many runs can I get in during the 4 hours of Test-n-Tune?

a lot
JasonD 08-08-2004, 09:30 AM Heres the important question. Never been to a REAL track before ;)
Then M9 is the best place to learn. If you need to ask a question, you should have no problem finding someone to help you out. It is a pretty cool and friendly event.
an old runway that was once used for cropdusters in Charlotte.
Out by the Crippen airport?
How many runs can I get in during the 4 hours of Test-n-Tune?
A lot. :) It is not hard to find yourslef making hot laps. There's tons of cars there, but not so many that you get one test run and you are done.
OneSickSix 08-08-2004, 04:52 PM I think thats the one you mentioned. Some friends of mine used to take me out there and I dont know that area for ****.
ws6transam 08-08-2004, 11:30 PM You'll get in as many runs as you can handle. I've seen some past events where one guy got in over 31 runs in his gold '78 Trans Am (Ed Trejis, M2), and I am sure that's no longer the record. I went home after M5 with sixteen time slips in my map pocket.
95 Z/28 LT1 08-08-2004, 11:33 PM Or how about Pat last year, kept going until it broke.
OneSickSix 08-10-2004, 08:35 AM Ok, heres another one for you. What happens in case of a rain delay?
JasonD 08-10-2004, 09:25 AM There is no rain date. If it rains and the track is 100% unuseable, everyone gets their money back and we all go back to the hotel and party. :)
So far, we have had good luck 9 years in a row without rain (maybe a little snow, though.)

Will you quit saying the "R" word for cripes sake. What are you trying to do? Jinx us? Sssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhuuuuuuuuuuuuuusssssssssssss sshhhhhhh. :) :D
It's going to be a nice, sunny, cool day. Period.
robvas 08-11-2004, 04:05 PM It's 64 out today.
By my calculations, it'll either be -12 degrees, or 94 degrees.
Patman 08-16-2004, 02:36 PM Since it's been far too long since I made it out to the M event (last one I was at was M5!) I decided I must attend this one! So I booked my room at the Amerihost this afternoon!
It'll be great to see you guys again and catch up on old times! I had a ton of fun at Milan Mania 2, M3, M4 and M5, and I know M9 is gonna rock! Stanton hooks hard, and it should hook even better after a full day of racing. The cool September evening air ensures everyone has an awesome shot at a new best ET too!
I'm finally back in an LS1 vehicle again too, this time the one I always wanted. I can't wait to show it off! :)

he has a mudstain, IIRC
Jason, just noticed something about the M9 banner, you have it as IV, it should be IX.
JasonD 08-22-2004, 07:58 PM You must have an old version cached in your browser.
Yeah...that's it. ;)
DEVENOMER 08-22-2004, 08:44 PM Im bringing my car on a trailer, so if i break something i can trailer it home!

That's increadiable, I didn't even have this computer back near M4!
Firebird355 08-23-2004, 02:27 AM Yea, I didnt think so.... and yea I do have a mustang... not necessarily converting my mind to ford though lol, its just a driver....
Timberwolf 08-23-2004, 03:52 PM um, I just called amerihost to reserve my room, and they told me NO rooms had been reserved for the 25th and only ONE had been reserved for the 24th. I hope you guys that reserved got confirmation numbers...

dunno, hopefully it is. but you might want to double check.
just a heads up.
Torkman15 08-23-2004, 11:40 PM Dont worry I only live a few miles away and I still have an old house trailer sitting in my side yard, rates are comparable to the condition of the 1969 trailer house  also own 12 acres so theres lotsa parking :D I'll be there!
JasonD 08-26-2004, 12:07 AM Less than one moth to go! This is gonna rock!
Timberwolf 08-26-2004, 01:34 PM I was talking to ls1source.com today and they asked about the possibility of bringing their dyno up for the event. I deferred to you for that Jason. I imagine they will be contacting you.
JasonD 08-26-2004, 02:00 PM That would be cool. I already have a pending on-site dyno, but I am having a hard time with getting a confirmation.
If you talk to LS1Source again, have them get in touch with me via e-mail. Thanks!
OneSickSix 08-26-2004, 02:01 PM On-Site Dyno .. mmm .. Baseline dyno before blower install. YES! :P How much is it going to run for a pull tho? thats the important question!!! :P
JasonD 08-26-2004, 02:05 PM One more thing...
I have confirmation that there WILL be one or more magazine writers there. One is Barry Kluczyk he has mentioned a few times that he will be scouting for feature cars.
M8 was intended to make GMHTP, but for one reason or another didn't get in. No big deal, we got M8 in Pontiac Enthusiast and S3. Perhaps M9 will make GMHTP? We'll see! :thumb:
JasonD 08-26-2004, 02:06 PM I have absolutely no information other than one dyno MAY be there. That's all I know for now, if I get any additional info, I will defintely post it! :)
taner 08-27-2004, 12:04 AM definitely getting pumped for the event!
2K1SunsetSS 09-01-2004, 07:11 AM Does Stanton have a scale and will it be available to us?
I've always wondered how much my car weighs.

Dave Feerst 09-01-2004, 11:36 AM bah nooooooooooooooooooooo!
I will be in ireland this year, cant make it :(
SilverStreak 09-01-2004, 04:26 PM So does this mean i don't have to take your trans out this weekend? LOL
Timberwolf 09-07-2004, 09:35 AM Have any of you that pre-registered gotten anything in the mail? I keep hearing there is a package that's sent out with all the materials or whatever, but I haven't seen anything. I registered back in May...so maybe nothing was put together yet?
JasonD 09-07-2004, 10:02 AM The wristbands and info packs are all going out this weekend.
DJCobol 09-07-2004, 02:42 PM What if you pre-register after this weekend? The deadline says September 17. Will the stuff just be at the gate with our names on it?
JasonD 09-07-2004, 11:43 PM What if you pre-register after this weekend?
I gotta cut the pre-registration off that date so I have time to send out the wristbands.
The deadline says September 17. Will the stuff just be at the gate with our names on it?
Yep, you will get wristbands in the mail, plus you will be on the list at the gate.
Get those pre-registrations in! :)
robvas 09-08-2004, 03:02 PM If you're lucky you might see a LS1 with 0 $ in mods run a 12.99! I'll have to bring a set of tools so I can yank the front sway bar :D
I'll be taking the car down the track with the stock lid and exhaust, and see how close to my old bests I can get. 13.06 and 108.51 (on seperate runs)
Murdock 09-08-2004, 04:04 PM What will the safety reqs be like? I'll be shooting for an 11 second pass, if I run an 11.90 without a rollbar will I get the boot? Does Stanton stick to NHRA regulations?
Thanks
JasonD 09-08-2004, 04:12 PM The track does adhere to NHRA regulations. I am not sure how tight they stick to them, but don't be surprised if you go too fast that tehy ask you to slow it down.
Come on out and roll the dice! ;);)
dreamer1q 09-13-2004, 10:33 PM So Jason, I know your always busy and all at these events, but you think there is anyway we can get your punk ass out there so I can smack it around a few times. You always set this up, and its a GREAT time, but you never get to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Frezza was out there a few years ago, but you always watch. If you want I can ask your mommy if you can come out and play :D :p
2001-WS6 09-13-2004, 10:48 PM Just an important public service safety note.... This is an evening event... so nooooooo Country Kitchen Super Balls will be allowed at the track after the banquet. You must leave your balls in your room.... errrr or something like that. :D
That is all. :D

Damn, someone remembered
MarkyMark 09-15-2004, 03:55 PM Just got my bands in the mail today......now I cant wait! This event sounds like its gonna be a blast, I am looking forward to seeing some of the faster f-bods out there, and I am hoping to do something in the bracket racing, but my reaction time is killing me. See ya there! :D
Patman 09-15-2004, 08:13 PM Will there be anyone at the event who can do LS1 tuning? I had mine done at ARE but it needs some fine tuning (slightly higher shift points, slightly less timing) and I don't have time to get to ARE before the event.

I'm sure there will be someone with tuning capabilities. I finally pre-registered.
JasonD 09-19-2004, 10:26 AM Just so everyone knows, the pre-event luncheon has been confirmed.

JasonD 09-19-2004, 05:52 PM Wow...weather is looking DAMN good for the event this year with near perfect racing conditions.

I think this is the first year in a long time we haven't had to worry about the threat of rain. Then again, this event has never been rained out once, even though a couple of years it looked nasty.
This is gonna rock!
Patman 09-19-2004, 08:34 PM I checked the weather forecasts for that area this morning too and was impressed to see no rain in the forecast at all for the entire week coming up. I can't wait until Saturday, it's gonna rock! Is there gonna be a convoy from the hotel to the track on Saturday afternoon? I'll be arriving at the hotel sometime between 2-3pm. What time is the earliest we can get into the dragstrip? Before 4pm, or will it be right at 4pm?
dreamer1q 09-19-2004, 09:16 PM We have a caravan of Michiganspeed guys leaving Grand Rapids around 12:15 for the Greasy Spoon on Saturday. taner 09-20-2004, 04:23 PM Q,
hope all is well with your car coming back together! i ran a smaller shot in the car on the weekend it went, 9.87 @ 140.43 mph, best mph was 140.83mph in eliminations. unfortunately my dot slicks are DEAD! all that on a 1.49 60'....more to come!
dreamer1q 09-20-2004, 09:27 PM I cant wait to see you flog that thing this year Taner. I still am saving a good beer for ya ;)
SSnthe10s 09-20-2004, 10:00 PM So whats the bump gonna be for the Quick 16 ?
also, will the Q16 be ran AFTER the brackets or inbetween or what?
taner 09-20-2004, 10:19 PM my guess would be mid 11's to high 11's.
also Jason, can you ask if we'll have some cool down time, change bottle, flow fuel. 45 minutes would be good between rounds. especially if i decide to up the jets. that is 20 minutes alone, lol! the joys of trying to go faster.
SSnthe10s 09-20-2004, 10:53 PM some time between rounds would be nice for bottle swaps and heating ect like Tanner said. maybe have the first round before the brakets start.
or we could do it like the pump gas drags. no bottle swaps and no opening of the hood for the duration of the race! that was a fun event.

first round before brackets is a great idea.
97rs4life 09-23-2004, 12:10 PM Is the dyno going to be free or cost money to run a few pulls?

I believe Livernois charges $50 for two pulls.
