INTMD8 04-28-2004, 12:11 AM I recently finished building a twin turbo system for my car.
Turbos are Innovative GT61's, P-trim .69 a/r on center, mounted low on either side of the block. Tubular motor mounts gave me room for induction. I had to notch the stock K-frame for compressor housing clearance. Headers are tubular, non-equal length 1 5/8 primarys.
I had Griffin build me 2 intercoolers which mount vertically in front of each tire. The are a bit small for the task, but I wanted to re-install my bumper support, so I used what room I had. IAT's start out a 70 and rise to 125 at the end of the run, but I think they will do better on the road with more airflow to them.
Engine is untouched since the last setup. It was still running great so I didn't even bother to freshen it up. 357ci, 9.2-1 compression, 224/224 113lsa cam.
With a mix of 93 and Torco 110. (about 75% 110), a very conservative tune (21 degrees timing, 10.8-11.0 a/f) and 19lbs of boost, it made-
868 rwhp 832 rwtq
I'm happy with the results :) The car is still nice to drive, has all accessories including A/C, and is absolutely INSANE on the street.
I'll post some pics within the next few days, and hopefully some video too.

nice job!
cant wait to see the pics and the videos!
zoomjrl 04-28-2004, 12:30 AM how much did that cost, that sounds very similar to QMP turbo numbers. is 800ish really the limit of the LS1s? That one C4 by EFI God was 1200hp
JordonMusser 04-28-2004, 12:52 AM congrats man, very nice setup. my next turbo car will be twins.
Holy crap !
I saw that you were selling two 61's and thought that you might have given up on the project....Glad to see you didn't!
Good job, as usual.
Whistler 04-28-2004, 01:54 AM Glad to see it all come together! Good job!

LS What?:D
ryan2 04-28-2004, 08:55 AM nice numbers! the incon guys have cut "window" in their wheel-wells for airflow to the intercoolers. I belive they added some grating or something to protect the core from rocks and debris. Also, I think some added fans to the front side? Not sure if that would fit at all.
95 Silver TA 04-28-2004, 09:49 AM :bow:SWEET!!
Fast Caddie 04-28-2004, 10:41 AM  DAYUM!!!!! That's almost 100rwhp more than the single and on 2 less psi boost.
Good job Jim!!!

Looks like he got rid of the LT4 intake... is that an in-house fabriated intake? Hogan, etc...?

Looks like an in-house. Quality look good though.
INTMD8 04-29-2004, 11:40 PM Thanks guys. :)
I don't have any plans to reproduce the system. Don't think it would be very profitable considering the time I have into it.
I'll take some pictures of the finished system and post them within the next few days.
Just installed a set of 3.31 gears tonight, so I'll have it at the track soon. (hopefully the 315 DR's will hook good enough to get me some MPH :) )
The intake is an RGR. I've been trying to get him to make some more, but he's pretty busy right now.
JZ 97 SS 1500- The front three plugs on either side are no problem. Both of the rear plugs are directly behind the collectors, and no, they are not easy to get to. But, in order to achieve my goals, compromises had to be made. I did not want to remove the air conditioning, and I'm also running dual intercoolers as to not block off any air going to the radiator/condensor. That alone pretty much ruled out having high mounted turbos.
Highlander 04-30-2004, 12:24 AM Is this using the same eagle crank and rods???

Any pics of the dyno sheet?
INTMD8 04-30-2004, 12:43 AM Same eagle crank and rods. The engine is untouched since over a year ago when it was freshened up for the single turbo system.
Highlander 04-30-2004, 12:44 AM Do you use ceramic coatings at all inside the engine? heads???
INTMD8 04-30-2004, 01:01 AM I'll post some pics and the dyno sheet soon.
Nothing in the engine was coated.
Highlander 04-30-2004, 01:12 AM Got any numbers for your IAT? do you have any expectations at the track???
what are you using for tires???
INTMD8 04-30-2004, 01:17 AM On the dyno, iat's started out at 70 degrees and went up to 125 by the end of the run. The intercoolers are mounted just ahead of the front tires, so they weren't getting much airflow on the dyno. (havn't datalogged iat's on the street yet).
Raceweight is 3,800, I would like to be in the high 10's at 145+ on 315/35/17 Nitto DR's. I don't really care so much about the ET as I do the MPH.
TimbrSS 04-30-2004, 01:44 AM totally badassed!!!

97ChameleonTA 04-30-2004, 10:06 AM Awesome numbers!
I have to ask, since I am building a setup very similar to your old one.
What'd you do with all the old parts like the headers and the Gt80? ;)
Also, I know i've asked you a while back, but after having some more time with it, what is your final opinion on the GT80? Seems alot of the Ford guys think its a little lazy.
Marty

You should... you should be hitting 9s with DRs at that speed.

This is a fully optioned 3,800 lb. car with a 6-speed and you think it should go 9's on a drag radial? It will do just fine...
INTMD8 05-01-2004, 12:45 AM Thanks everyone :)
97ChameleonTA- I sold my complete single turbo system. I was happy with the turbo, but I also don't have anything to compare it to. (I only would if I had tried different turbos with the same system).
Jim_H- Thanks for understanding. Most people see a HP # and automatically assume it's an all out drag car, which could not be further from the truth.
This car will not be in the 9's, ever. I break enough driveline components on radials, and with this amount of power and how heavy the car is, enough traction for 9's would practically guarantee me a flatbed ride home.
I'll take it to the track to see what kind of MPH it can pull, that's all I'm really curious about. I am not concerned at all about ET, I'm just satisfied with the amount of fun I have driving this car on the street. It's nice being able to drive around a 900 hp car unnoticed.
Highlander 05-01-2004, 12:47 AM I see... and I understand the mph... its indicative of the power
97WS6SCharged 05-01-2004, 12:50 AM Time to go surprise a few Ferraris and other exotics. I hope mine turns out as well. ;)

GreaseMonkey83 05-03-2004, 01:25 AM what all do you have done to the transmission and rear-end?
sleeperz28 05-04-2004, 02:43 AM Nice numbers. Thats a low gear for a turbo car, you think your clutch will like that:D Your probably in the same boat I am, the car doesnt really hit hard till the top of second. In this case I guess a small gear would not matter. Have you touched anything more then 19? I started to play with 23psi, although my clutch doesnt seem to like it much.
Tiago 05-04-2004, 09:01 AM Originally posted by sleeperz28

I take it you run a street twin?
INTMD8 05-04-2004, 12:45 PM The transmission is a rebuilt 93 unit with the 2.97 first gear, street twin clutch, 12 bolt rearend. The short 1st gear in the trans definitely helps with the 3.31 gears.
It has very fast response in all the gears, but it doesn't hook on the street until I shift into 4th. (Still accelerating through 3rd but hazing the tires pretty good).
I havn't tried anything over 19 psi yet. I'm having alot of fun with it as it is :)

Are you still using the MSBC-1?

Yes, and it's doing it's job, but I would be interested in one that had a programmable boost curve rather than just being able to adjust boost level and rate.

I was thinking about trying the Turbosmart E boost. I was hoping somebody else had some experience with it besides the DSM guys....
LukeZ28 05-04-2004, 04:36 PM Sweet, great job. Its all about the MPH :)

Mightymouse on this board has been using one for a while or so he mentioned in this thread. (http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=236336)
MIGHTYMOUSE 05-05-2004, 01:56 PM yes i do, you can adjust ramp up with the gate pressure and then have your choice of 3 boost steps that you can activate or deactivate at any time by touching the controller or buy switching it externally on your shifter, steering wheel etc.
great hp dude!
aintno6 05-06-2004, 10:39 AM wow I saw your car at the open house this year. You really have some awsome talent bud. Your car diserves to be on the cover of magazines no joke.
Have you thought about submitting it to GMHT or Chevy Hi Performance?

SnortinLT1 05-27-2004, 05:09 AM LMAO I totally agree with the dude above me HOLY FU**IN Sh*t That car is awesome after i get out of school Im planning on a TT Project for ym 94. I want around 600whp. Props man that car is insane. I want to see mor Turboed Domestics
Greg
Highlander 05-27-2004, 02:17 PM You do not need a TT for 600rwhp.
Geoff Chadwick 05-27-2004, 02:37 PM I'm hoping 600rwhp-650rwhp on pump gas - single turbo.
And I see these guys and think "man my car is gonna be slow..."
I love these boards :D
Highlander 05-27-2004, 05:30 PM well.. same happens to me.. im expecting 700rwhp out of my setup on pump gas possibly... but... When you get to see a few of the exotic setups... one seems like a kid.
