T-top conversion Q's....

where can I get pretty much a full t-tp conversion kit?(beisdes digging around for it on the FS secitons)

What is needed in a T-top conversion?(parts)

What should I expect to pay roughly?(parts)



Also any cons to do a conversion other then screwing up in the process :)

Like any appearance mod, there will be those who love it and those who trash talk it. People seem to think that hardtop f bodies are a rareity and they should be cherished but from what i've seen t top f bodies are the real rareity around here. One big problem with the conversion is that they have a better chance at leaking but then again even factory t tops leak eventually. And if you do the conversion right then you shouldnt have a problem with leakage. I personally feel that the t top conversion is the best appearance mod i have EVER done to my car. They'll come in real handy on those beautiful summer nights when you just wanna cruise. Another downside that peopel try to use to convince people not to do it is the convienence factor. They say that its too much work to take off the tops and then put them back on when you go into a store or somewhere real quick, but those people are what i like to call "lazy" :p

As for where to get the kit? I got mine on ebay for 360 shipped with everything included. If i remember correctly you need: The tops, the brackets, a couple of trim pieces, weather stripping, the middle bar that the tops secure into, and the headliner you have to find on your own. Other than that i think thats it(am I missing anything?) The total for me was about 550-600 bucks.

I say get them....you wont regret it, despite the t top haters on the board :D

I have another question to ask, since I have lots of mixed answers.


Does a t-top conversion weaken the structure of the car(well weaker then a t-top car)?

I've thought alot about this too. And the way i see it, if doing the t top conversion makes the car weaker then technically the factory t tops also make the car weak. In the conversion you cut off the two metal chunks on the side and in the factory t tops they are also gone. In the conversion
you still have the center t bar and in the factory t top you still have the center t bar.


If you're really concerned about it then get sub frame connectors. But i have driven a factory and a conversion car and they fell exactly the same going over bumps,rail road track, etc......

Checking my tire pressure the other day and some nice black 01 Cobra pulls up beside me. The guy was nice and complimented my firehawk and ask me how the t-tops work. Mine were already off in the trunk so I gave him a quick demonstration. He loved them and asked me if they were factory and he wondered where he could get a conversion kit for his Cobra. It was a hot sunny day and I was getting a tan cruising around with the t-tops off. The bottem line is t-tops are a must have option and they come off so quick and easy and latch n' lock in the trunk in seconds. :bow:

I considered shoudl be the same as any other T-top car but was just asking since I have been told, just want to review what other people say.

As far as parts.... I am assuming these parts...

-t-tops
-center piece over the bar(how does it connect to the T-bar anyways?)
-Weather stripping(any ideas on a part number for a new one?)
-brackets for the pins (how do these connect to the body?)


Anything I am missing?

Yes, there are some brown trim pieces that hold the weather stripping on. On a hardtop car it is one big piece that goes from the bottom of the windshield to the other end, and on the t top they are broken up into three pieces.

More importantly your going to need

a Dremel, and alot of the circular blades! Try to get the heavy duty one otherwise youll be breaking them every 5 minutes.

A saw-sall....with a metal cutting blade.

And basic tools. Ohhhh and dont drink the night before!..:)

Dude, I was sooooooo hungover.

I went out and looked at my hardtop camaro... and realized just how small my balls really were... :o

Also the fact that i'm flat broke doesn't help.
