stealth2 04-27-2004, 10:25 AM Well, I've decided to abandon my YSI and build a new LS1 setup based around a Vortech XX-trim, which means new:
fuel pump
fuel rails
injectors
aftercooler
EMU
heads
cam
valve train
It's only money.

Good luck. :) Must be nice to have money. :D
stealth2 04-27-2004, 10:50 AM I'll borrow it.

>some questions for you ...
- what bracket will you use for the XX-trim ?
- won't the Aftercooler restrict the amount of air from the XX-trim ?
- will there be enough room for a blower that size ?
- and ... will you have to remove the air pump ?
stealth2 04-27-2004, 02:45 PM Custom bracket and aftercooler. It should fit but I will mock it up first. No air pump.
mongse_1 04-27-2004, 06:58 PM What kind of times did you get out of the YS-setup? I've never seen a true LS1 supercharged car run it's ass off yet. I would think a YS-based setup would be pretty damn quick.
stealth2 04-27-2004, 08:20 PM Well, ironically, I have a new YSI blower that has never made a run down the track. I've just decide to change to the XX because the car would not otherwise be as fast as it needs to be.
I've heard there's a couple of Lt/LS cars out there running high 8s on the YS blower.

I can think of one LT1 running that time. All the YS-trim LS1s "should" run that, but could woulda shoulda...you know. :D
Highlander 05-03-2004, 10:24 AM Well I just bought a brand new YSi trim for high 9s, I've seen a few YS-trims go 9.00s @158-159 mph on the 1/4 so I assume that the YSi, being more efficient and flowing a bit more it should reach the 8.9s@160mph mark. with 160mph and a good launch one can get into the 8.7s at the same mph.

Ronnie Duke.....fastest ls1 at the moment.
387ci C5R, F1-R blower, 400 trans, 9", 3.90 gear.........8.52 @163mph.
why just an 8?..........its a 3692lb convertible.
with all the huge ls1 projects ive seen glimpses of, im sure there will be people in the low 8's and high 7's eventually.

No LS1 owner has ever been more frustrated with his/her car than I am with mine, and its coulda, mighta, woulda, shoulda, hope-to-a, shouldn't it, why doesn't it crap. A SBC would have been soooOOOO much easier.
ryan2 05-03-2004, 07:07 PM all blower this time or will you still be spraying?
Also, Ronnie/Kurt sprayed on that 8.52 pass, but he has run 8's on blower alone.
Stealh, are you going to use an air/water or the same front mount?
you know, you could go SBC and still run Outlaw in the LS1tech stuff. just need to keep the suspension and EFI.
I say go NA and throw a 4-link in....just because :)

yeah, he went 8.62 without the nitrous.......so not really a big difference
stealth2 05-03-2004, 10:38 PM I'll use a small shot to cool the charge.

C5R...F-1R...that's sledgehammering into the 8s. I'm talking about a production aluminum/iron block, running production heads (LS6/LS1/5.3/6.0), running the number that they should. Not trying to knock anyone, but I'm just not seeing the track numbers matching up with the dyno numbers. I think that will change in '04 though. Meaney's Big Stuff system looks like it's gonna be the hot ticket for blower cars. :)

I agree that we should not be comparing C5R times with LT1 or LS1 times.
I've never heard of Meaney's Big Stuff system. What is it?
Guido 05-05-2004, 05:00 PM stealth, surf back over to ls1tech.com forced induction forum and look up the post "1150hp ls1". Its near the top. Its a turbocharged 382ci LS1 controlled by a new Efi system called "Big Stuff" which was designed by John Meany who also had a hand in DFI and FAST. They are getting ready to debut a system for the LS1 cars that doesnt kill coils like the FAST does.

What is the name of Meany's company?
Guido 05-06-2004, 08:40 AM I dont even know how to get your hands on that ECU.
Kurt Urban (427 on ls1tech.com) will be selling them from what I understand. But it isnt out for the LS1 cars just yet. I think he said sometime this summer.
94-3.4 05-07-2004, 10:06 PM Stealth, i don't know but i have seen you car in person. Are you still having DRE do your work?
stealth2 05-08-2004, 10:27 AM DRE does engine and tuning work. Kennedy Race Cars does chassis, cutting/welding, etc. AAA Transmissions does transmission work.
Pro Stock John 05-10-2004, 07:00 PM If you want to sell the TSI I might have a buyer or two for it Stealth.
If I could do it all over again I would look into the BS3 since it's less work to install than a FAST system in an LS1. BS3 is not technically out yet but it's supposed to be out soon.
stealth2 05-11-2004, 09:56 AM Yes, I no longer need my Tuning Solutions Inc (TSI) LS1 EMU and I am trying to sell it. 69firebird has already contacted me.

Note: I'm stealth's daughter and my user name is stealth2. My Dad is stealth. He recently gave the LS1 camaro to me so that he could focus on Quick 16 racing. I've worked on the car for three years and pretty much know it inside and out.
Both of us try to avoid LS1tech.com because of some of the mindless gang-mentality over there. Also, he concluded that LS1 racing was mostly for younger and inexperienced racers like me. He's probably right.

thats one hell of a nice dad!
goodluck on the project, and definetly make sure you keep us all updated with some photo progress.........z28.com is definetly different than the ls1tech community.

Yes, I'm 19 and single and I was reluctant to pointout that I was a female because these sites and drag racing are mainly for guys, so let's just talk about cars. OK?
I will have new pics of the car and its mini-tubs, new blower piping and Pro M maf in a few weeks. As for the XX stuff, I probably will not post any pics or progress info because the LS1tech.com juveniles would see and use them. And I certainly will not attend any of their f$%&#@g shootouts.

were the minitubs custom made? would you post a pic of just the minitubs?
stealth2 05-22-2004, 01:39 PM Yes, the tubs were custom made and I can post pics of those next week. What a freaking job the tubs turned-out to be! Actually, there was more work fitting the new 9-inch Ford and Willwood brakes than on the tubs.
Birdie2000 05-22-2004, 06:30 PM Yes, definately post pics of the mini-tubs! :thumb:
Made of fiberglass or what? Are the axles shortened at all?
stealth2 05-22-2004, 06:54 PM We purchased a narrowed housing from Moser. Aluminum tubs.

Stealth,
I used to read about your dads progress over on LS1Tech. I seem to remember he had a lot of problems keeping the heads down. Have yall figured out a way around it? If not, what is the advantage of going to a bigger blower? You say it's not making the power it should, but that's not because the blower is maxed out is it? Wouldn't putting a bigger blower on it just increase the parasitic loss of turning the larger unit without gaining any output since you can't up the boost without the heads lifting? I am obviously no expert with all of these questions, just curious. Thanks.
stealth2 06-02-2004, 07:04 PM Yea, he's told me he and DRE figured out how to keep the heads clamped down. I'll know more about where the car's design is headed after we get the current setup tuned and racing later this month.
stealth2 06-04-2004, 10:02 AM A Z-trim now appears to be a possibility.

Only my Dad can answer that question, but since his Firebird runs 7s . . . Seriously though if you look at the numbers even a z trim probably will not put a 3400 lb car LS1 into the 7s. I think we would need around 1300 rwhp.
Birdie2000 06-10-2004, 12:08 AM Ever get any pics of those mini-tubs? I'm very interested!

A Z-trim has put a few mustangs into the 7s.... running at 3400lbs is extremely dangerous if you are planning on going that fast.. and soon to be illegal with 25.5
