solty202003 04-22-2004, 11:31 AM Hi my name is Lance and i am new to this site. I have a question that i wanted to ask you guys here. On friday i will be test driving a 1992 Camaro RS 305 5spd. I talked to the guy about it and it sounds like it is in good condition but then he told me it had 150,000 miles on it. He said he bought it with 130,000 and put 20,000 on it in the 6 months he has had it because he travels to lansing from kalamazoo like twice a week. My buddy and i are thinking most of those miles are highway miles but i am still unsure of it. That is a lot of miles. He wants 3k for the car, what do you guys think it is worth?? And should i even waste my time on a car with this many miles?? I am just unsure how the 305's held up with high mileage, and about the whole deal...HELP!!
Thanks Lance

If its the original motor and tranny that price seems kind of high. What kind of condition is it in? Make sure when you look at it you start it when the car is cold to check for smoke. Check for anything leaking, take it for a drive, see if it makes any odd noises.
Sitting Bull 04-22-2004, 12:15 PM If nothing else, 305s are tough little engines! You could easily put another 100,000 miles on it if it has been properly maintained.
The body and chassis are what I'd be more concerned about, assuming the 305, tranny and rear end are in good shape. Michigan cars are renowned for being rust buckets, so look it over carefully, especially if you are thinking to make this a long term daily driver. Body work, like anything else on a car, can be a never-ending chore if the rust has gotten out of hand.
92RS305#2 04-22-2004, 01:16 PM i paid 3300 for my auto w/ 90K and in decent shape, and that was kinda high. go for 2500 and see what they say.
KiLLa MiKe 04-22-2004, 01:33 PM I paid 2100 for my 1990 Iroc with only 83000 miles on it... you could find a lot better deals... keep looking.
solty202003 04-22-2004, 02:28 PM yea i was goin to ask what you guys thought i should offer....The car came from ohio originally i guess and this guy bought it and drove it in kalamazoo for 6 months...so if the motor is in good shape it should run for while longer?? like i said i know all those foreign cars run for like 200+k but i didn't know about a domestic motor. Thanks for the replies guys.
Thanks
Lance
PyRo9862 04-22-2004, 02:39 PM I paid $2150 94,000miles, the car has no options except the 305, F41, and AC. It wasn't in the best of shape either, I put new seats in, new tires, a bunch of other stuff, and just cleaned it up. I still have to pull the carpet and clean it. Figures right when i'm done fixing this one up, I find the exact car ive been looking for for about a year now.
92 firebird, 75,000 miles, t-tops, and a 5spd :)
I'm going to go check it out, I would probably drop about 4 grand on that if its in good shape, just because it happens to be exactly what I want, and it has low milage.
krazzycowgirl 04-22-2004, 03:53 PM If you have the vin do a car fax on the car. Remember all Major wrecks are reported to the cops. & go in to the car fax files.
87DJP2001 04-22-2004, 04:28 PM 12 yr old car with 150,000 miles now lets see that averages out to about 12,500 per year avg. What kind of miles were you expecting on a 12 yr + car???;) ;)

Alot of us are spoiled, we dont like to see anything over 150k miles on it NO matter how old the car is. Unless we put it there.

My car was hit, and wrecked bad, with a police report. Doesn't show up on carfax. Some cars in junkyards with major damage come back clean on carfax. Don't trust it too much.
solty202003 04-22-2004, 06:11 PM well we will see tommorow...i will let you guys know how it drives and rides and if i put any money down on it or not. this car will be a everyday driver so it will have to run pretty solid and good for me to want it. And the body will have to be pretty solid and straight....i know that is hard in michigan tell me about it i have lived here all my life. You haven't seen a rusty car until you come to michigan:eek:
Thanks for the replies
