Push Button Start

I am going to wire up a push button start system for my car. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of switch I need. Is it just a momentary switch? I don't want to use the S2000 switch that most people use. But to my knowledge that is just a glorified momentary switch, am I right?

A heavy duty momentary switch works fine. If you are looking to hide the switch, here is a good idea.
I used the cig lighter, and cut out the back to make the switch fit. I had to use needle nose pliers to get the nut on the inside of the socket. Then I wired up the switch to the ignition wire. I still had to use the key for the acc, but the key wouldn't crank the engine. The factory lighter was the "button". It freaks people out when they see it.

The only drawback, is that the engine will turn over when the button is pushed w/o the key in, but it woun't start.

where can I get a heavy duty momentary switch. They dont have any that can handl the amperage that I need at radio shack or any local parts store?

Why would you want a button if you still needed a key in the ignition?

I agree, but if you still have to get a key out in order to turn on the radio (as stated above) it seams kind of pointless.
Now if your "magic button" turned everything it, that would be cool.

i agree with jawz, no point if you still gotta use the key

Autozone can fix you up. Look around the electrical section.

i know theres no point, but i like working on my car, and i dont have money right now to do anything else. if ya need a purpose, say its for security and hide the button.

like the transporters BMW, that was so awsome, put in a code and put the button, that would be pretty neat, need to hook up one of htem keypads to the door too so you can have a keyless car....

come to think of it that would be kinda real neat, wonder how hard it would be, and how easy it would be to steal your car after you did that?

If you want a keyless system, just do it NASCAR style. Use a set of toggles under the dash for all the accesories, then hit the magic button. You could even wire up a KILL switch for emergencies <- (That connot be spelled right)

I will be finishing up my VW Scirocco similar to this in the summer.

Having 10 aircraft style toggles along the dash. $75
Misc. wires and connectors. $30
Pushing the "Magic Button". Priceless

You can also buy a viper switch if you don't want a honda part in your car. They cost about the same I think, thats what we put in my friends car. You can wire up the switch in series or parallel. The difference will be is series you cut the ignition wire and put the swith in the same path so you turn the key on and have to use the button. But if you just want it to show off every once in a while, just splice into the wire so you can use the switch and the key to start the car. you will still have to have the key in the ignition and on either way.

I've been tossing arounf the idea of wiring a button to me neutral safety switch, so you have to push the button to start the car, maybe hide it under the seat.

Not the same I guess, but something to think about

nah, you would have to find a button that says EJECT. We could call it the B-14 Bomber Mod and use an aircraft style switch, that would be cool.

How bout a button that shoots spikes out of the fenders, for those close races where you need a little extra edge. Call it a 50 shot.
