door skin delamination

Hello,
i am hoping you can help out with the '94 camaro. i tried searching and had no luck (not even sure what terms to search under)....

the driver door skin is peeling off of the the inner panel. if i open the driver door and look at the top of the outer skin (the panel that has the outer window felting attached to it), it can be pulled away from the underlayment (that is one piece with the panel on the side of the door (houses the door latch, etc). (sorry, it is much easier to show than articulate - i dont know how to post pics).

it appears that there was some black sealant or adhesive in there (from the factory?)....

has this happened to anyone? i want to fix it before it worsens. i would really appreciate any thoughts or ideas you have on a fix (even what type of adhesive, epoxy, etc to use to seal it up). i can pull the outer panel out enough to get a thin nozzle in there to lay down some product.

I remember a few years back when I had my 95Z I remember reading a few posts about this on the LT1 board. I haven't read anything on the LS1 board about it though. Maybe it only occured on some of the early 4th Gens maybe?

Unfortunately I can't remember the details though.

Do a search for recalls or TSB's and you might find something.

It was a problem on some models before 1995. It can be glued back on by a body shop, using the correct adhesive.

Liquid JB weld is good stuff too.

i dont really think i would have a body shop do it....to do it right would probably be an arm and a leg. i was thinking either JB weld or plastic epoxy might work. i think most of the panels on that car are fiberglass/composite, so i was not sure about what product might be best....(im a good wrench; i just dont know a lot about F-bods and have only really worked with metal panels in the past)......

I have heard of people having luck gluing the door skins back on by using 3M Plastic and Emblem Adhesive. Install the glue and clamp skin back into place or use some strong tape to hold into place and let it dry.

Go to an auto paint supply store. They will be able to tell you what you need to do it right. :)

The same thing happened on my 93. I took it to the body shop today, they quoted me $50 to reseal the doorskin. It's not that expensive.
