Brighter DRL's

Yeah I want brighter daytime running lamps. I love em and want to make them brighter or find some that burn brighter. It seems the corvettes have the brightest drl's. Any suggestions?

You could check out Silver stars (i think thats the name) I do believe they make DRl's as well. They are alot brighter than stock lighting.

i have the silverstars and love them but didn't like the price much i got them at the local wal-mart for about 40 bucks....if you have a true fetish for light kc hilites sells a kit called the quad beam kit that make all four of your light come on when you hit the high beams it is super easy to install and that cost me 20 bucks...:)

p.s. i've got a 99 m6 ss You have silverstars in the turn signal housing? BTW you don't need to buy a kit to make all lights come on. You can do it by putting a jumper wire in the dimmer switch. Teke184 has instructions on his website.

my bad and i did't know about the jumper wire i'm not sure how that works but the nice thing about the quad beam is the it uses a relay to draw the power for the low beam when the (highs are on) right from the battery elimating the possibiliy of burnig out the switch

I think Brent Franker(<--spelling) has a how to article on his site that explaines how to wire up brighter DRL's in your turn signal lights on older models. You can even wire it up so you switch them off and on just like the factory they are just much brighter. I bought all the stuff at radioshack for like $10 bucks. I still as of yet haven't installed it though. I got kinda lazy and then I forgot about all the stuff I have in the bag until now. If it's not him who has the how to, someone on this site has it. I emailed back and forth a few times with that person a few years ago and he was very informative and helpful. It's a pretty easy process and very well explained too.

Yeah, I bought a 10k resistor so that I could control the drl's. The headlights would come on too early and I think the drl's look best at dusk. I went past a corvette this past weekend waiting to make a left turn and I could see it's drl's from almost a mile away! They've got to be at least a little brighter than the camaros'. I went to pep boys before work earlier to check on the silver stars, and it seems they have regular and brighter bulbs. They didn't have any of the brighter bulbs for the drl's so I'm still lookin.

Off Topic: Hey cripple, I just went to your page and just found it funny that you think my favorite fighter, the B-2, is a POS. Really I never knew anything about it other than it looks cool as hell.

I don't think brighter DRL bulbs are a good idea. :no: The stock bulbs burned holes in my lenses bulb housings. I can just imagine what a hotter bulb would do over time!

The site I described just has it setup so the current bulbs go brighter. If you ever notice your blinker is brighter than your DRL's it's because the bulbs were made that way. This setup just makes it so your brighter "blinker" part of the bulb is on all the time. Then when you turn the blinker on it just flashes instead of get brighter. Seems like a good idea to me. The only thing I would think of is that it might shorten the life of the bulb, but it can't be much.

Eh.... bulbs are cheap enough anyways IMO.. If it looks a lot beter but i go through twice as many light bulbs, its worth it to me!

I have a '99 so I have the "brighter blinker part of the bulb" on all the time. I'm trying to make that even brighter. I'll try another search.

On my car, there are 2 sets of bulbs for each side. The bulb on the very front is the turn signal and DRL bulb, the other bulb right behind it is the side marker which only illuminates when you turn the parking or headlights on. The only time the DRL/turn signal bulb goes dim is when the headlights are turned on. On my car, there is no difference in light intensity between the DRL's and when the turn signal is activated...DRL's are really bright and the turn signal is the same.

I now see that you both have 97' and up cars which means you already have the DRL's that are bright. I guess I kinda misunderstood and was making reference to the older car crowd that didn't have DRL's but liked to turn the parking lights on to act as those(like me). The unfortunate part is that they aren't very bright. Sometimes hardly noticeable on sunny days. What I described would be in reference to guys with older cars like my 95'. Sorry about the mixup. Not sure how to help with your situation I apologize.

Ok, you've got it right, that's exactly how mine are. I'm not sure but I think the corvette has drl's in the turn and side marker which is probably why they look brighter. I'm going to see if I can get the side marker lights to shine brighter.
