Juiced Altima v.s. Modded Mustang GT...

Well yesterday was my day off and I finally got the nitrous kit that I borrowed on. Although it wasn't as I expected, and I still don't feel completely comfortable with it, I ran it last night and will take it to the track tonight. I was originally putting a wet kit on it and starting out with a 75 shot, hopefully moving up to a 100. After a couple of hours inspecting the fuel lines/injector rails/system and doing a search on Yahoo, I came to the conclusion that Nissans do not have schrader valves on the later model vehicles. And if there is one, I sure as hell can't find it. So instead of cutting into the factory fuel lines or taking the time to do some pretty in depth fabrication to the fuel rail, I decided against my better judgment and went out and bought a dry nozzle. I have heard of MANY people running a dry kit with no extra fuel and just letting the ECU in the car help richen it up some. Most people have had no problems, it just doesn't "hit" as hard as a wet kit. I've always been against dry kits myself, a big fan of wet kits, but I really wanted to at least try something out. So we hook everything up and start out very small, a 35 shot. Everything seemed to be working ok. Took it out on the road and tested it. You could feel it kick in but it was very weak. So we go back and swap in the 50 pill. Go back out and tried again, everything seemed to be working well. You could "feel" it a little more than the 35, but there wasn't a lot of nitrous left in the bottle so it was cutting in and out.

So we go out a little later hanging out at one of our spots. A buddy of mine told me he had a half-filled bottle and said he'd let me borrow it to run someone last night if I got a race. One of my friends has a '95 GT with i/h/e, ecu, chip, pullies, cobra upper/lower, ported/polished stock heads, and a mild cam. He's been low 13s @ around 105ish. He agrees to run just for fun so we can all see if my car picked up any. I thought I was gonna get raped for sure....

So we head out and line up. He gives me the pop and I leave with minor wheelspin and go to the juice at about 3,5k. Meanwhile he's having real trouble trying to hook up in 1st, spinning pretty bad. I get out about 2-3 cars. He hooks in 2nd and remains about 2 cars back and didn't pull any once he hooked up. We go through the finish where we have a marked off 1/4 and I was still out about 2 cars and my speedo was reading 105. My best mph at the track is in sig.

I was really suprised at the outcome but just to back it up and make sure that the nitrous was working, we ran again with me NA this time. As soon as he hooked up he came past me and put 3+ cars on me. So I guess it's working ok.


Anyhoo, my buddies getting the bottle packed and picking up the 70-80 pill today. I'm going to the track tonight to see what kind of gains I'm looking at...

Just be careful. Don't want to damage something so you can't play anymore.

When you say "pills" for change the size shot, are you referring to the "jet"?
Again, nice story!

I'm almost positive you can get a T fitting to go in-between your fuel line and fuel filter to tap the wet line into. Check Summit. If you're gonna keep the dry kit, I'd dyno it with a sniffer....if you're not lean, I wouldn't mess with a wet kit. They're a pain to tune compared to the dry.

Well, first things first, I'll be doing some basic maintinence on it. Prolly go ahead and do plugs/wires, put new valve cover gaskets on (they leak a lttile right now), change oil, adjust the new clutch cable that was put in, etc.

Once it's running right I'll probably end up doing the following- cobra upper/lower, 1.6s, F cam (or something comparable), and at least a 150 shot. I'd like to be able to get into the 11s on spray and have a solid high 12/low 13 sec NA car.

We'll see, too many people underestimate the potential of the "old" 5.0s. The car should be well in the 13s like it sits....

Thanks for the imput Steve! I'm aware that heads help those cars out a lot, but any set of alum heads gets $$$. If I can find a good deal on some used ones I'll probably try and pick up some, or maybe buy a new set down the road. As for the sticky tires, the car will be on 28 11.5s wherever I go, street OR track...:D no point in half a$$'n it...:cool:

Are you sure people underestimate the potential of the old 5.0s??? That and the blown cobras are really the only ones that I would like. Personally I like the simplicity of the 5.0 over my LT1, and the fact that I can reach the back of the engine. If I ever have a garage of my own, there will certainly be one of those in there. They've gotta be the cheapest thing ever to modify.
