Question I have a sound coming from I think the rear passenger side, loud bonking/pop sound

My car is lowered with the DMS springs with SLP take off shocks.

I have a BMR adjustable panhard bar, slp sfcs, LCAs and relocation brackets.

When I go over pot holes or any other road imperfection, I get this sound that seems like its coming from the passenger rear suspension area.

Its like a bonking/popping sound like something is not put together right, but I have bolted together and the shock doesn't appear to be bad.

I only get this sound if I hit a rut in the road and its definitely coming from the rear...and I'm almost certain the passenger side.

Any ideas? Other than taking the shock out, how can I check to see if the shock is blown?

Thanks fellas,

lbrowne

well putting stock shocks in with higher rate springs kills them pretty fast.
So that COULD be it,
but it could be your exhaust hanger too, I lost one of hte drivers side bolts and now it kinda clunks, so I have to get a new one, but a peice of cardbard in there is helping fix it right now.

These springs are noted to work very well with stock shocks.

I never thought of the exhaust piping, I'll look at it the weekend

They work better then others with the stock shocks, but the stocks still cant keep up with them, and wear out realy fast, I just wouldnt cross them off the list jsut yet it all I'm saying.
exhaust would be the easiest fix though.

i would bet it was a bad shock

but what about it being the sound of the tire bottoming out? possibility due to bad shock?

Its can't be that because I know what my tire sounds like rubbing on the fender....because my wider tires have done it when i have hit dips in the road on the highway....

Wuold heat coming back from the cut out cause the shock to heat up and fail?

or do shocks normally get hot/warm after driving?

how wide are they? they dont look any wider then 275, and if 275 are rubbing you got the wrong offset.

The heat from a cutout will not do anything to the shocks.

I'd still get under and look at the exhaust hanger, and if thats tight then I'd bet its your shock, new or not, they are stock z28 shocks, and with springs will not last very long at all, and could very well have worn that one out already.

they're 275, and the rims i have are specifically for an f-body and it was even on the packaging. (bought brand new directly from the vendor)

The rubbing is only faint and it only happens in the rear. What it takes for the rubbing to happen for the car to have a bit of weight in the back, not much and for me to be barrelling down the highway at 60+ mph and hit a hard dip that almost seems like its trying to make the bottom of the car hit the pavement

then i get a very quick *scuff* of the rubber faintly hitting the fender lip.

I have factory 275 on the ZR1's and there is NO way for me to hit even when I lifted the car behind the drivers front, and the pass side tire tucked right inside with clearance still.

so if htey are the proper wheels then the sound was from soemthign else, I would guess your shocks, or again your exhaust hanger.
so check both them

Strange, but I've heard of others with a slight bit of rubbing with a similar setup as me. no biggy, when i say i rub the tire actually goes up in the well and rubs on the side from what i can tell.

But I'll check what you said this weekend, doesn't take much to pop that shock out if the exhaust looks alright.

Your problems maybe something so simple as a possible spare tire or jack that may not be properly secured and bouncing around on a hard enough impact...just a stab in the dark.

My shocks have probably jsut over 1000k on em as well Its only coming from the rear passenger side though.

The stab in the dark is a good suggestion, but my jack and spare have long been removed

I'll be taking her apart this weekend.

CHeck the ends of your LCA's and your panhard bar. With the car parked push up and down on the back on each side, then try pushing the rear sideways back and forth. I had a bad panhard bar end and would clunk going over bumps and would only make noise if you pushed the car from side to side. check your rear hatch they get loose and clunk also. I dont think it is your tires I have 315's and no issues.
