I am in the process of buying an LS1. Is black gonna be horribly scary to keep nice looking outside? enough to completely sway my decision? My dads 01 SS is black and i know how hard it is to keep it looking nice after a wash and all the dust all over it all the time. What do you think?

:blah:

On one hand, that car is gonna be dirty two days after you wash it. Believe me, I know.....

On the other hand, there is NOTHING like a freshly washed and waxed black car.

Go for it!

No, you should be fine. Just get used to seeing it dusty more often. Dilligent washing and waxing will prove to be very good friends to your car. Good luck.

Don't buy a black car if you don't have a garage, it'll be dirty the next day after you wash it. Buy white, silver, pewter, or red. Those colors stay cleaner longer.

Black will never stay clean looking but after a nice coat of Zaino you will find yourself staring and "strokin" Even with a garage. Everytime you wash it or see a new scratch its so painfully obvious on a black car. But black is just so awesome.

I have a black car. Swore I would never buy one cause of hard they are hard to keep clean, but wow. I really like it when it is waxed and just washed lol. I think I might get one of those California Dusters. People say it helps. Can't beat 10 bucks.

I'm so damn anal about my car, I know that if it were black, I'd have no life outside of dusting/washing/Zainoing it.:shame:

I've got a black car and don't have a garage (live on base)

I've gotten used to seeing it dirty, but it's not that bad of a deal. Just get a couple of good coats of wax on. I have 2 coats of NXT so for and she stays clean for quite a while. Also, detailing spray is your friend. Get some good stuff (either match brands, or get Eagle 1) That will keep it awesome in between washes/waxings.

Good luck, and don't back down :thumb:

I think black SS's look nasty...when they're clean :)

If you don't mind spending a considerabe amount of time on it, go for it!

I own a black SS, and its garage kept, but it still gets washed/Zainoed after I take it out on several "rides". I enjoy doing that though.

If you wouldn't, SS's/Z's look good regardless of color, so look for another color :)

To be honest...

Here I go with the Zaino again guys :)

I have NBM and my car is 100% outside. I live in an apartment.

I zainoed it... what I do is wash it maybe 1 a month and "hose it off" maybe 1-2 times a week to get dust off, then I just drive it dry.

these are some pics I took...

I hadn't washed the car in 2-3 weeks... just hosing it off...

also same with all the pics on the 3rd page of my site... they really alot of playing with the camera options then pics of a clean car.

and if it matters this is 1.5 months with no wax jobs, wash jobs but I go outside and do a 20 min. wash and dry deal.

Main reason for my hosing is we get SOO MUCH freaking pollen. Thats the main problem on my car really...

In my situation woudl I buy a dark colored car again if it was a nice deal?

Yes I would... Though I want another silver car like my first 85, I think the dealing with dark cars(as long as you zaino it) is worth it.

Maybe this is why I jizz so much over zaino...

I wouldn't. Tree sap is impossible to get off and bird crap leaves marks in the paint. Black paint gets waaay hotter than most colors when it's in the sun so everything is twice as hard on the paint.

I didn't have a garage for a year and I went nuts trying to keep the paint nice and free from permanent scars. I'd never do it again.

If I had a nice daily driver, black car that sat outside it would drive me nuts keeping it clean, I'm anal about my car and my NBM already drives me crazy enough.

same here. I spend hours after i wash my dads SS just to get it to where i am happy. I have decided not to get black. maybe once I have a garage i will treat myself to a black 2002 TA WS6. (Or my dads SS if he wants to sell it.)

For now I am sticking with red, silver etc...

no nbm or onyx black for me yet. although the def. look the best.

I'd buy it too. I have a darker purple car that does not have the luxury of a garage either. Buy a california duster and dust it off the next day after a wash and so on. as mentioned above if you wash and polish/wax it often enough it will stay looking in tip top shape

Black is a PITA to keep clean, but everytime I get mine cleaned up, no matter how much I had to work, it's ALWAYS worth the labor. And after a few coats of the Z2 (just tried it for the first time today), it just looks SO damn good!! :thumb:

Yeah it gets incredibly hot, scratched real easy, and there certainly is no easier way to drive a car buff nuts than to own one. But... for my quasi garaged (winter only), 4 year old paint, with a saturday of work I can make it look like new... just park on the far end of lots, accept the fact the rear buper will be dusty, right after you dry it, and that the nose will get stone chips... then go buy it! cant beat the look of a clean black car...

Yes black can be a real pita if left outside. The only reason I bought a black ws6 was due to the great deal I got on it. However, it does sit outside all summer, but after cleaning it up real nice and applying a few coats of zaino, it looks great. Now to keep it clean while I'm not driving it, I have a car cover (one that is meant for outdoors http://www.autoanything.com/carcover/product.asp?SessionID=828756625ABPLDFUDMDI&prID=296) and whether it rains, pollen flying in the air, or tree sap, it stays clean under cover. The only problem I have had with the cover, is on really windy days with the slippery waxed surface, the cover occasionaly will start to come off. I fixed that problem by securing the front/back of the cover.
NOTE: I don't drive the car daily to work and such, so it may sit in the driveway a couple of days without being driven. But..... when I remove the cover, it remains clean.

For me I'm looking at a GTO and my choice of colors would be white or sunset orenge, they havent offerend any of these colors yet so I might be going with black.

Why is it that the nose on black cars look awful after a few years? is the clear coat under a white or light color? my neighbor has a Black 01 BMW 325CI and the hood of that car is a mess with speckels where rocks have dinged off:(

I think its a scam by automakers to get you to buy a new car. I think that there is paint technology that can be cost effective that will help prevent bug and road grime damage. The reason automakers don't do it is that they want the car to look chipped up after 4 or 5 years so you will buy a new one.

Not sure if you have but check out the other thread...

I have owned, a silver 3rd gen, white truck, quaserr blue 4th gne, and my 100% outside NBM Camaro has been the most maintenance free.

That is why I have such a hard on for zaino... I was really really worried about my car when I got it.
