Some dyno time at New England Dyno and Tuning

Well, I went to see the boys over at New Englands Premier Dyno and Tuning facility last night.;) That would be New England Dyno and Tuning of course ;)

After seeing Mark C's 03 Cobra churn out 600.1 RWHP, we strapped "The Tomato" down and started to do some tuning.

It was beyond rich with the base tuneup:rolleyes: I had (it pegged the A/F ratio at 9.19) and still made 481 RWHP. Of course some jackass had to bust my balls and tell me it only made 350 rwhp and man was I pissed:eek:

We leaned it out and managed to get a few more ponies out of it while still being rich as hell and very conservative on the timing (22*).

It made 540 / 545 and still has a ways to go on tuning but we ran out of time as it was getting late.

It did make some progress and the important things to note are that it....

A) didn't eat any more blower belts at $75 each (thanks go out to SD Concepts in Rhode Island for that;))
B) didn't blow up :D
C) drove home under it's own power
D) made more power when I left vs. when I arrived.

I'll keep you guys posted when I go back and we do the final tune on it.

I do need to take the car off the road and send the Vigilante torque converter back as it is loose as hell (flashes to well over 4k). It worked great as a 2800 stall when it was making 400 rwhp but now that it is making more power it is out of control.

Thanks again to Dyno Dean and Rob for taking care of me.
Definatly the place to go when you need to thow your car on the rollers.

Marc,

What was the problem with the belts?

Thanks guys ;)

As far as the belts go I was eating them. I never had problems with my old P600B on 8#'s of boost with the 8 rib belt but when I switched to the D-1 15#'s and 12 rib it has munched 3 belts.

I don't have digital camera handy but if you want to see, do a search on SD concepts in the forced induction section and you'll find some pics there.

ATI has too much flex in the bracket and the blower would move all around and the belts would bet munched. Munched on on the dyno once and sent it into a million pieces, the other ones have just walked an chewed up a portion of the belt (aka they're now emergency spare belts of 10 rib and 11 rib widths).

Sounds like you have alot more left in your combo Marc! Where do you expect to end up when you're done? 700 rwhp or so?

it won't reach 700rwhp, its at 540 right now leaning it out a bit more and adding some timing, it will probably get 620ish at the rear is my guess.

Josh,
I like your optimism but I'd have to agree with Bob.

As long as the first digit is a "6" I will be pleased but I've allways thought 620ish sounds good, of course I will take more but whatever it makes is what it makes ;)

Started taking the tranny out to send the converter out so it will have to wait about 3 weeks or so till we strap it back on the rollers at NEDT.

On a side note, I did put the Vig in the LS-1 over the weekend. I haven't driven it as I've still got to hook up the tranny cooler and put it back on the ground but at least it's in.

Getting good at dropping trannys:rolleyes:

Well, if you don't reach 700, you can reach for a smaller pulley and just a little more boost...;).
