im looking at the Borla or the Billy Boat exhaust cat backs.....
give me some advice on what to get... thanx

ProjectCamaro 04-08-2004, 09:11 PM I'd go with RKSport headers, 3" Carsound Cat, and an SLP Loudmouth.
raz0r6 04-09-2004, 09:59 AM ok first off you dont need to spend a fluckin fortune on exhaust ok borla is nice quality so is loudmouth and corsa but they are way to pricey and you dont have those extra two cylinders to back up that muffler.
headers on the other had all i hear about them is that they always leak and people complain about them leak sometimes and that there a bitch to fit on correctly,
i myself have stock headers, cut the cat off and have a 3 inch pipe into a dynomax muffler out to quad outlets, it rumbbles pretty good for a v-6, but there is no way that i would put over a 700 exhaust system into your car. people will make fun of you in a way they could of said that you could have put that money towards a v-8 or something to throw under the hood.
i do have plans this summer to throw on a high flow cat on my car bc i herd that it will make the exhaust less raspy at higher RPMs like if you were to throw it in Neutral or have it in park and rev the **** out of it and if you just gone it off the light it will so deep and loud not raspy and ****y
so im just giveing my two cents
let me know what you think

ImportKILLER 04-09-2004, 11:08 AM Oh god...please don't do the neutral rev. Super ghey. :rolleyes:
* Unless you really REALLY have you heart set on Borla, look elsewhere. In terms of performance, the systems I've had all felt the same (Borla & custom cat-back). Sorry but no matter what system you go with, you will get raspy in the higher RPMs. We're simply two cylinders short and don't push enough air.
* If you are going to go with headers, do yourself a favor and avoid RKSport at all costs.
* Get a hi-flo cat. Odds are you probably NEED a new cat anyways. Don't look for it to make your car any noticably louder but a little deeper instead. You may/may not get a SES in which case you may/may not need to look into o2 sims.
* Intake before exhaust
* Try a search. When in doubt...search.
Good luck. :)
atl2001 04-10-2004, 03:02 AM ive yet to have problems with my RK sport headers on my 3.4L , i have them, along with a highflow cat and a dynomax ultraflow (soon to be replaced with a 2 OTL muffler), i like the sound of the car now, but i love the 2 OTL's looks and flow #'s
the dynomax mufflers sound better than the crap masters ive heard on the 3.4L , the flowmaster is louder, but not as throaty
and an open cutout is good as far as flow goes.... but it sounds like @$$
92CamaroRS 04-10-2004, 09:33 AM I've got a 94 3.4 with 120,000 on it with stock manifolds and high flow cat with 3 in cat/back flowmaster 40 series with 3 in. outs and 3 in. tips. Sounds great. Couldnt ask for anymore throaty sound out of a 6 cylinder. Stays deap and throaty unless you really on it about 5000 then it turns into a high rumble. Definately doesnt sound import. If I every have to replace the exhaust same setup is going back on. Wish I could post soundclips
97SS0594 04-10-2004, 12:58 PM i have a flowmaster 80 and love it ppl think its a v8 when its idleing!! http://baycityrides.com/vids.html
Camv695 04-11-2004, 04:16 PM If your looking to spend alot of money i would go with B&B Triflo exhaust. I have it on my 3.4 and it sounds very good and adds a good amount of hp and torque..I also have a randomn tech hiflo cat as well... if u wanna see some pics of the exhuast, i got them on car domain... www.cardomain.com/id/camv695
deadmeat2004 04-15-2004, 02:06 PM i have a flowmaster 80 series also. I agree, they do sound awsome at a idle. they dont get loud at high rpms really either.

i dont know about that, it may sound like a ricer uptop but it gets pretty loud!!
sick94 04-16-2004, 07:24 AM i've got stock manifolds, no cat, flowmaster exhaust, and 3.5 inch tips and it sounds awesome for the v6. runs a little rich though :p. sounds like a v8 at idle and pretty close to one through the lower rpms. i've also got a cai so that helps a little. sound has gotten deep w/ all the miles i've put on it. even at high rpms my car doesn't sound bad, its just loud as f%^k, specially w/ out the cat lol. pops like hell too coming down from higher rpms. all depends on what type of sound you like. l8tr
deadmeat2004 04-20-2004, 02:19 PM did you notice anything upon removing your cats? performance or anything? Is the sound deep or just louder?
Chrisz24 04-20-2004, 10:34 PM Best 3.4 I heard was a girl at my school with a Borla sectional on her 93 M5, it sounded awsome, so much better then mine.
sick94 04-22-2004, 05:54 AM i did notice some hp gains from not having the cat. it was noticable as soon as i started the car up again. only thing is that it runs rich now but i can deal w/ that. the sound will increase dramatically also. ur exhaust will be sooo much louder w/out the cat. gives the car move of an open sound. most ppl can not tell the diffence that my car is a v6 when its at idle. but of course you'll always be able to tell when ur in the higher rpms. also when i got the slp cai i could notice huge gain in hp as well as the exhaust got a little deeper. gives the car a whistling sound, something similar to a turbo wh/ is kinda cool imo. i do agree that v6's w/ the borla exhaust sound soooo great but they are extremely expensive. l8tr
deadmeat2004 04-22-2004, 09:25 AM the first mod that i ever did to my car was the K&N FIPK. I love the sound, i know what you mean. do recommend knockn of teh cats and runnin rich or leavin them on. Is there any dif in the fuel economy?
sick94 04-22-2004, 06:41 PM well depends on if you live where you need to be emissons legal. where i've got the car tagged i don't have to pass emissons so i cut the cat off and had a piece of pipe welded up in place. i personally like running the car w/out the cat. just sounds so much better to me as well as better performance. the exhaust will just smell much more rich but i haven't noticed anything different w/ my fuel mileage. of course i dont' get that great of gas mileage b/c my car is at 176,000 miles lol. the only thing you'd need to worry about is if you have an o2 sensor behind ur cat. then you would need to get a o2 sim to take car of that. like i said before, i enjoy running the car w/out the cat. i would recommend doin it but save the cat so you can put it back on if you don't like it. l8tr
dmanc93 04-26-2004, 04:47 PM well in my option i wouldnt go for anything too expensive, because no matter what you put on it the sound isnt goin to be worth anything over $400. i bought a rksport cat back system, because it was rather cheap, it sounds decent at lower to mid rpms, and i like the look of the dual-dual tips. i also cleaned out my cat which makes the exhaust note louder, but also at higher rpms it sounds a little tingy, so i would recommend replacing it with a straight pipe if you dont have to worry about emissions.

sick94 04-27-2004, 05:16 AM yeah thats what i did, i had a guy weld me a piece of pipe where my cat used to be. all together i spend 160 on my muffler, pipes, and installation. then i paid bout 100 bucs for my chrome 3.5 inch tips. i just found a cheap place and had it done. l8tr,
Eliminator 05-02-2004, 08:55 PM Anybody hear a 3.4 without a muffler?? Hows the sound if you did. I just bought a 95 Firebird today and its quiet as hell, I need some noise.
atl2001 05-02-2004, 09:37 PM its loud, but by no means sounds good

it is crap, very loud
all ive done was cut out my stock muffler n welded on a custom dual exhaust 'muffler' with dual-dual tips. Sounds nice n all, didnt cut out the CAT cuz of emissions, but it sounds better thn that stock single-outlet muffler
now to figure out if it gained HP or torque...:death:
